Box Score

Senior Conor Boyer (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) posted a double-double and sophomore Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) added a career-high 15 points, but Keuka College's men's basketball team fell to Penn State-Berks 63-58 Sunday in Reading, Pa.

Boyer scored 14 points on 7-for-12 shooting with 10 rebounds, sophomore Adam Starks (Wellsville, NY/Andover) added 5 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds for Keuka (3-7, 2-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference), which lost for the first time in three NEAC contests.

Sophomore Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) snared a career-high 15 rebounds, six offensive and nine defensive rebounds, as the Green and Gold enjoyed a 45-37 edge on the glass.

Sophomore Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) scored two layups as the Storm took an early 4-3 lead before Berks (4-8, 3-1 NEAC) responded with a 19-11 run to take a 22-15 lead with 6:36 left in the opening half.

That caused Keuka to call timeout, but the Nittany Lions lead actually grew to 25-15 before the Storm answered with a 19-7 run bridging the two halves to take a 34-29 lead with 16:37 remaining. Boyer scored eight points, Wagner hit a pair of '3's and Healey added four points during the run for Keuka.

After Berks knotted the score with a 5-0 run, senior Teddy Tuggles (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) knocked down a '3' to put the Storm up 37-34 with 13:55 to play.

Boyer added a lay-in for a 39-36 lead, but the schools traded baskets until Starks hit a '3' for a 48-44 lead with 6:38 remaining. The Nittany Lions used an 8-0 run to take a 52-48 lead, but Tuggles sliced the deficit to one with a three-pointer with 2:09 remaining.

A 6-0 spurt from Berks made the score 58-51, but the Green and Gold weren't done yet. Wagner made another '3', his fifth of the game, and Starks added a layup to pull the Storm within 58-56 with 26 seconds left.

Following a pair of free throws for Berks, freshman Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) buried a jumper with 16 seconds remaining for a 60-58 deficit.

Berks went 3-for-4 on free throws to seal the win. Jeff Schmidt scored 10 points with 11 rebounds and Tom Smith had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals for Berks.

The Storm plays at Lancaster Bible College at 6 p.m. Monday and at Houghton College at 7 p.m. Wednesday night before hosting Gallaudet University at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12, the first of three straight home games.
