Huge Second Half Dooms Men's Hoops

Sophomore Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) scored 23 points and added seven rebounds, but the Keuka College men's basketball team dropped an 83-65 decision to Wells College Wednesday night inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

Senior Teddy Tuggles (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) had 10 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds while sophomore Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) added 11 points for the Storm (6-9, 4-3 North Eastern Athletic Conference).

Keuka turned the ball over 22 times, but forced Wells into 19 turnovers.

The Storm trailed just 31-29 at halftime and tied the score when senior Conor Boyer (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) made a basket early in the second, but Wells closed out the game on a 40-25 run to win for the third straight time.

Wells junior guard E.J. Taylor scored 36 points on 9-for-13 shooting on three-pointers to propel the Express (7-9, 3-3 NEAC).  Wells scored 52 second-half points as Taylor poured in 21 points while making all five of his '3s' in setting a school record for three-pointers in one game.

After trailing 7-0 early on, Keuka only trailed 12-10 when Healey buried a jumper eight minutes in. Down 21-11, Wagner made a '3' and a jumper and Healey added a jumper as Keuka went on a 7-0 run to claw within three points.

A Tuggles '3' tied the score at 27 with 1:43 remaining in the opening half, and the Storm took a 32-31 lead when Healey went 1-for-2 on free throws, but after the teams traded baskets the Express used a 12-4 run to take a 50-40 lead with 12:05 remaining.

Keuka trailed by at least seven points the rest of the way in losing its second straight. Wells snared 17 offensive rebounds en route to 42 total rebounds while the Storm had 10 offensive boards and 32 total rebounds.

Keuka shot 42 percent (21-for-50) while Wells rebounded from a 22.9 percent effort in the first half to make 66.7 percent of its shots (14-for-21) in the second half.
