Women's Volleyball Picks Up Two Wins

Junior Paige Golden (Kent, NY/Albion) recorded 14 kills and 26 digs over two matches while classmate Jill Nolan (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) added 48 assists as the Keuka College women's volleyball team opened the 2012 season with a pair of wins at Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)/Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) at D'Youville College.

Keuka dispatched of the host Spartans in three sets, winning 25-19, 25-18 and 25-20 in the first match.

Newcomer Deliane Lessard (Rochester, NY/Genesee Community College) recorded eight kills with four digs, Golden added six kills and 14 digs and Nolan chipped in with 20 assists to power Keuka to the three-set sweep.

Facing Hilbert College in the second of the NEAC/AMCC Challenge contests, Golden had eight kills and freshman Morgan Eberley (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) added six kills as the Storm defeated Hilbert, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-20 to complete the sweep.

Nolan added 28 assists, junior Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) had 23 digs and sophomore Julia Coryell (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) added five aces as Keuka picked up the win.

Keuka kicks off the home portion of its schedule with a 7 p.m. non-conference clash with SUNY Oswego on Tuesday night, Sept. 4, the first of four straight home matches, before welcoming SUNY Canton and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) to campus for the 2012 Keuka College Invitational, Sept. 7-8.

It marks the first time Keuka has hosted a non-conference based tournament since 2010, when the Storm split a pair of matches during the day-long Keuka College Halloween Invitational.
