Sharick Scores Twice, WSOC Blanks Caz

Box Score

Senior Nicole Sharick (Corfu, NY/Pembroke)moved into third place on the Keuka College all-time scoring list, scoring twice to lift the Storm to a 4-0 win over Cazenovia College Tuesday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Sharick, a three-time All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) forward, scored twice to give her nine goals for the season and 43 for her career, moving her past Tracey Halleran into third place among Keuka's goal scorers.

Sharick sits one goal behind Julie Deboover for second place, and seven scores shy of Nicole Bondellio's mark of 50 goals.

Junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) added a goal and an assist and sophomore Ashley Swarts (Arkport, NY/Arkport) added her first goal of the season career to lift the Storm (4-5, 4-3 NEAC), which snapped Cazenovia's (8-3-1, 4-2) seven-game winning streak.

"We were just trying to put some goals in the net and finish our opportunities," said Sharick, who is tied for third among all goal scorers in the NEAC.

"We've been struggling with that the past couple of games, but each time I just saw the open net and scored. Today, we did a good job playing to feet. We have so many weapons and my game has opened up a lot. (Defenses) don't have to just look at me, we have more than one player on the field that the other teams have to mark up, so I think it's good as a team that we have more than one threat."

The Green and Gold came out firing from the get-go. Sharick fired three quality shots on goal within the game's first three minutes, but Cazenovia keeper Breanne Warner came up with big saves every time Sharick threatened.

The Storm finally broke through in the 13th minute. Bandrowski dribbled past a Cazenovia defender and slid a shot past Warner for her eighth goal of the season.

Less than three minutes later, the Green and Gold had a 2-0 lead thanks to Sharick and a well-placed pass from Bandrowski, who played a nice through ball to Sharick's feet, just outside the 18. Sharick turned and ripped a shot into the right side of the net as Keuka scored twice during a span of 2:58.

Swarts extended the lead to 3-0 on a beautiful chip from 35 yards out. Swarts converted her first goal of the season, and third of her Keuka career, in the 27th minute, blasting her shot high into the near corner of the goal to cap the first time the Storm has scored three times before halftime this year.

Following halftime, the Storm kept peppering Cazenovia, and the persistence paid off in the 49th minute. Sharick and junior Stephanie Havens (Unadilla, NY/Unatego) each took turns firing shots on goal, but Warner made two of her 11 saves to maintain the three-goal lead. Sharick corralled the rebound from Havens' blast and scored into the lower-left portion of the net for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Sophomore Marriah Gough (Oneida, NY/Stockbridge Valley) made six saves for her second shutout of the season.

The Storm outshot the Wildcats 25-6, including 14-1 in the first half.

"This win is exciting for us, we have a lot to look forward to and we know we can actually put multiple goals in the net every game," Sharick said after the 12th multi-goal game of her career, and fourth of 2012.

Keuka returns to action with an 11 a.m. home contest Saturday morning against NEAC rival SUNY Cobleskill.
