Women's Volleyball Finishes 2-2 at Hartwick

The Keuka College women's volleyball dropped both matches during Day 2 of the Hartwick College/Holiday Inn Invitational, Saturday inside the Lambros Arena in Oneonta, N.Y.

The Storm (18-6) was swept by Lebanon Valley College (16-12) in the morning match, losing by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-13.

In the afternoon match against host Hartwick (9-14), the Green and Gold won the first two sets, 25-11 and 25-18, but dropped the next three, 25-19, 25-22 and 15-12 in the decisive fifth set.

Junior Paige Golden (Kent, NY/Albion) posted a pair of double-doubles, with 12 digs and 11 kills vs. Lebanon Valley, and 14 digs and 12 kills vs. Hartwick.

Golden, who has 15 double-doubles in 24 matches, was named to the Hartwick Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Against Lebanon Valley, sophomore Devan Curtis (San Clemente, CA/San Clemente) had 10 kills, 8 digs and 3 aces while junior Jill Nolan (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) added 14 assists and four digs.

Juniors Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) had a team-high 13 digs while Rachel Parker (Chaumont, NY/Thousand Islands) handed out 10 assists with six digs for the Storm.

Facing the host Hawks, Keuka jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but couldn't hang on for the win. Curtis recorded her first double-double of the season with 16 digs and 11 kills, Nolan added 31 assists and eight digs and Smith had a team-leading 20 digs to go with two aces for Keuka.

Curtis had her 11 kills while only committing three errors in 37 attempts (team-best .216 hitting percentage).

Freshman Morgan Eberley (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) added six kills and four digs, junior Meg Houlihan (Elysian, MN/Minnesota State) had five kills and two digs while classmate Gina Ferruzza (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) added four kills with only one error on 15 attempts (.200 hitting percentage).

Keuka returns home with a 7 p.m. match with Wells College Tuesday night inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month events on campus, Keuka's women's volleyball team will do its part during Tuesday night's contest. There will be a table set up collecting donations to go towards the Keuka Comfort Care Home (www.keukacomfortcarehome.org), a hospice home in Penn Yan that offers free, compassionate end-of-life care to terminally ill residents of both Yates County and the surrounding area.
