Keuka Splits Final Day of Home Invitational

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team opened day two of the Keuka College Invitational with a 3-1 victory over Keystone College on Saturday morning. The Wolves then faced Hilbert College to close the invitational, falling 3-0 in three close sets.

Sophomore Alessandra Castañeda led Keuka College (2-3, 0-0 Empire 8) with 10 kills, five service aces and 13 digs against Keystone. Junior Gabby Rodriguez  led the Wolves defensively with 17 digs against the Giants before recording a match-high 22 digs and three service aces against Hilbert. Sophomore Addisyn Chorney totaled six kills, 10 digs and four aces against Keystone before leading the Green and Gold with 10 kills against Hilbert. Senior Nina Scott added seven kills, seven digs, two aces and three total blocks against the Hawks.

Keuka College 3 vs. Keystone College 1 – 25-15, 8-25, 25-20, 25-19

Keuka jumped out to an early advantage in the opening set. Castañeda served three consecutive aces as part of a five-point run to give the Wolves a 6-1 lead. The Green and Gold continued to control the set, extending the advantage to 16-7. Keystone cut the margin to six, but Keuka closed strong. Scott recorded three kills during a late run as the Wolves took the opening set 25-15.

Keystone responded in the second. The Giants used an eight-point run to take a 9-1 lead and maintained control throughout the set. Keuka was unable to overcome the early deficit as Keystone evened the match with a 25-8 victory.

The Wolves bounced back in the third. After trailing 4-2, Keuka scored five straight points, highlighted by back-to-back aces from junior Jaylyn Knight, to take a 7-4 lead. The Green and Gold later stretched the advantage to 14-7. Keystone pulled within three at 23-20, but sophomore Phoebe Swartz answered with a kill before junior Summer Elza closed the set with an ace for the 25-20 win.

The fourth set featured 11 ties and seven lead changes. With Keuka holding a narrow 17-16 advantage, the Wolves went on a 4-0 run behind two kills from Castañeda and a Chorney service ace to create separation. Keystone got back within four at 23-19, but Scott delivered a kill before Castañeda finished the match with an ace, giving Keuka the 25-19 set victory and the 3-1 match win.

Hilbert College 3 at Keuka College 0 – 25-23, 25-21, 25-21

The Wolves came out strong in the opening set. Rodriguez served back-to-back aces during a five-point run that gave Keuka a 7-1 advantage. The Green and Gold maintained the lead throughout the middle of the set and held a 17-11 advantage following a kill from Scott. Hilbert responded with an 8-2 run to tie the set at 19. Keuka regained the lead at 21-20, but the Hawks scored five of the final seven points to take the opener 25-23.

The second set remained close throughout, featuring seven ties. Hilbert jumped ahead 6-1, but the Wolves battled back and tied the set at eight following an ace from Knight. Neither side was able to create much separation before Hilbert built a 22-18 advantage late. Keuka answered with three of the next four points, including kills from Castañeda and first-year Gianna Falleti, but the Hawks closed out the set 25-21.

Hilbert took an early advantage in the third, building a 12-5 lead. Keuka battled back, using a 4-0 run behind Swartz to cut the deficit to 15-11. The Wolves continued to chip away and pulled within two at 23-21, but Hilbert claimed the final two points to win the set 25-21 and complete the sweep.

  • Castañeda recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs.
  • Rodriguez recorded a season-high 17 digs against Keystone before setting a new season high with 22 against Hilbert.
