CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team earned a doubleheader split with St. Lawrence University on Sunday at Finger Lakes Community College.
The Saints took the opening game 2-1, but Keuka College (1-2) rallied for an 8-6 victory in game two.
St. Lawrence University 2 at Keuka College 1 – Game 1
The Wolves used a patient eye at the plate to take a lead in the second inning.
Zach Elinich led off the inning by getting hit by the pitch. He moved to second on an error. With two outs,
Jay Antinore worked a walk to load the bases and
Nate Hill followed with a walk to force in a run.
St. Lawrence answered two innings later with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead over the Wolves.
The Green and Gold threatened in the sixth.
Ian Ruhmel was hit by the pitch with two outs. He then moved to third on a pinch-hit single by
Owen Osborne. However, Ruhmel would be stranded there as St. Lawrence maintained the lead.
The Saints would retire the Wolves in order in the seventh to secure the 2-1 victory.
Keuka College 8 vs. St. Lawrence University 6 – Game 2
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Wolves responded with five in the second, all with two outs. Ian Rumel started off the rally with a single and stole second. After an
Owen Garvey walk,
Jay Antinore singled to right to score Ruhmel.
Nate Hill then doubled to the gap and scored both Garvey and Antinore to give the Wolves the lead.
Derek Novicki later singled to score one and a throwing error added another as Keuka took a 5-1 lead.
St. Lawrence quickly got back into the game in the third as they plated three runs in the third and then added a two-out single in the fourth to regain the lead, 6-5.
The Wolves answered back in the sixth inning.
Jay Antinore led off with a single for Keuka. The Saints were worried about his speed. After multiple pickoff attempts, St. Lawrence threw the ball away allowing Antinore to go from first to third.
Nate Hill singled him home to tie the game. Hill was bunted to second and scored on a double to deep centerfield by
Derek Novicki to give Keuka a 7-6 lead. Novicki advanced to third and then scored on a balk to give the Wolves an 8-6 advantage.
The Saints looked to strike right back but Keuka ended the seventh with a double play. In the eighth, St. Lawrence got a runner to third with two outs, but
Alex Evans snared a line drive at short to end the inning.
Liam Eshelman entered for Keuka in the ninth and slammed the door. He opened the inning with a strikeout. A pair of flyouts sandwiched a walk as he got the save for the Wolves.

- Sunday was the first-ever meeting between the Wolves and Saints in baseball
- The Keuka College pitching staff allowed only four hits in the first game against St. Lawrence. Lucas Gilbert got the start, going three innings, two hits, and three strikeouts. Ryan Schur, Jr. entered in relief, allowing just two hits and one earned run over four innings, also striking out three
- Nate Hill had his hand in five of the eight runs for Keuka College in game two. Hill drove in three runs and scored a pair as well
- Derek Novicki and Jay Antinore each had three hits in the nightcap for the Wolves
- Brandon Wilson earned his first career win on the mound for the Wolves in game two. The first-year pitched three scoreless innings allowing only a pair of hits while striking out one
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will return to action on Friday as Keuka College opens up their spring trip in Florida. Keuka College will face Albertus Magnus College on Friday, March 13 at 7:15 p.m. in Davenport, Fla.
