Wolves Top Alverno 3-2; Finishes with a Split of the Day

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Keuka College Softball team continued their spring trip on Thursday, squaring off with Alverno College and Buffalo State in a pair of games.

Keuka College (2-5) took the opening game against Alverno 3-2 but fell to Buffalo State 6-2 to close the day.

Keuka College 3 vs. Alverno College 2
It was a pitcher's duel to start the game with the Inferno. The game was scoreless through three innings as starting pitcher Lizzie Kocsis allowed just one hit to start. Alverno strung together a pair of hits and scored on a double steal to take a 1-0 lead in the fourth.

The Wolves tied the game in the fifth. Olivia Flynn and Katie Landers had back-to-back singles for the Wolves. Gabby Glanville bunted for the Wolves and beat it out for a single. The throw was late and got away, allowing Flynn to score and tie the game.

Keuka College took the lead an inning later. Alexis Kopetchny singled up the middle and stole second. Olivia Frank came up and drove the ball to left centerfield and over the fence for her first career home run and a 3-1 Keuka lead.

The Inferno scored one in the seventh and got the tying run to third with one out. Julia Spencer got two straight groundballs back to her to keep the runner there and secure the 3-2 Keuka College victory.

Buffalo State 6 vs. Keuka College 2
The Wolves looked to carry the momentum and strike first in the second game against Buffalo State. Landers was hit by the pitch and Glanville and Jasinski followed with singles to load the bases with one out. However, the Bengals would get out of the inning without allowing a run.

Keuka had traffic on the bases often, but were not able to break through until the fourth inning. Lindsay Stuck led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by Alexis Kopetchny. Following a bunt by Julia Spencer to move them over, Stuck came home on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Frank to give Keuka the lead.

The advantage was short-lived, however, as the Bengals took advantage of a leadoff double and tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth.

The Wolves answered right back in the top of the fifth. Hailey Jaskinski singled for the Wolves and moved to second on a walk. Jasinski scored on an RBI single by Alexis Kopetchny to make it 2-1 Keuka.

The scoring in the game continued with Buffalo State pushing four across in the bottom of the fifth to make a 5-2 lead over the Wolves. The Bengals then added a run in the sixth and held the Wolves off the board as they defeated Keuka College 6-2.
