KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Basketball team had a pair of seniors voted All-Empire 8 by the league's coaches on Thursday.
Lamar Lovelace was named First Team All-Empire 8, while
Akinlana Popoola was named to the third team.
Lovelace has had a record-setting season for the Wolves. He broke the single-season record at Keuka and currently sits at 587 points. His total and average of 21.7 points per game leads the Empire 8 Conference. Highlighting his season was a 41-point performance that set a new Keuka College record and earned him National Player of the Week honors. He also ranks in the top ten in program history in numerous offensive categories. He was named Empire 8 Player of the Week three times on the season. He joins Devin Milton '23 as the only men's basketball players to earn First Team All-Empire 8.
Fellow senior
Akinlana Popoola was named Third Team All-Empire 8 for the second straight year. Popoola scored 323 points this season, averaging 13.5 per game, tied for 15th in the Empire 8. He had a big weekend for the Green and Gold on the road when Keuka swept Hartwick and Russell Sage. He scored a career-high 27 points against the Hawks and then followed that with 22 points as the Wolves topped conference champions Russell Sage. He also joined Milton in the record books. Popoola and Devin Milton are now the only players to earn multiple All-Empire 8 selections in their men's basketball careers.
Also honored on Thursday was first-year guard
Connor Chapman. He was one of 12 student-athletes honored by the conference, being named to the Empire 8 Conference Tomorrow's Leaders Team. From the Conference's release, "This team honors a student-athlete who has emerged as a leader not only on the field of play, but in the classroom and in the community. In addition, they 'compete with honor and integrity' and have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen."
