ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team dropped their opening match at the University of Rochester Invitational, falling to Wheaton College from Massachusetts in straight sets.
Alessandra Castañeda led Keuka College (1-7) with seven kills. On the defensive end,
Gabby Rodriguez posted seven digs to lead the Wolves.
Wheaton College 3 vs. Keuka College 0 – 25-14, 25-17, 25-13
It was a close start to the match as the Wolves and Lyons were tied at 8-8. Wheaton went on a six-point run to take a 14-8 lead. Castañeda snapped the run with a kill, but Wheaton extended the lead more to 22-10. The Lyons closed out the set 25-14.
The Lyons continued the momentum, taking an 8-2 lead over the Wolves in the second set. The Wolves put together a small run midway through the frame. An ace by
Nina Scott capped a three-point run that drew the margin down to four at 15-11. Wheaton was forced into using a timeout. The break served the Lyons well as they converted five of the next six points to regain control of the set. Wheaton took a 2-0 lead in the match, winning the second set 25-17.
Wheaton once again started strong against the Wolves, building a 9-2 lead. The Lyons controlled the final frame, winning the set 25-13 to sweep the match.

- Friday was the second-ever meeting between the Wolves and the Lyons. Wheaton won the previous matchup in a tournament in Maine in 2007
- Meaghan Knott led the Wolves with 10 assists in the match. Pheobe Swartz was right behind her with nine assists
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will continue the University of Rochester Invitational on Saturday with a pair of games. Keuka College will open the day against the host Yellowjackets. The Wolves will then close out the invitational with a match against Buffalo State.
