HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team lost their Empire 8 Conference opener on the road, falling at Houghton University 3-0 on Friday night.
Gabby Rodriguez led Keuka College (1-14, 0-1 Empire 8) defensively with 21 digs in the match. Alessandra Castañeda led the Green and Gold with seven kills.
Houghton University 3 vs. Keuka College 0 – 25-20, 25-7, 25-20
The Highlanders took an early 6-2 lead over the Wolves with five straight points, forcing Keuka into a timeout. The Wolves rebounded following the stoppage with a kill by
Addisyn Chorney. Keuka College cut into the lead multiple times, dropping the margin down to two, but that would be as close as they would make it. Houghton closed out the first set 25-20.
The second set was all Houghton. The Highlanders did not commit an attack error in the set while Keuka hit negative in the frame. Houghton took a 2-0 lead in the match, winning the second 25-7.
It was a close start to the third set with the lead trading back and forth. A block by
Lilah Cousins and
Nina Scott tied the set at 9-9. Keuka later took the lead at 14-13 as
Lilly Devine hit an ace for the Wolves. However, Houghton regained the lead and built a small advantage. They closed it out with the final three points to defeat the Wolves 25-20 in the third set to sweep the match.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will return home for their first home match since August 30. Keuka College will host Alfred University at 1 p.m. on Saturday in a rematch of the 2023 Empire 8 Championship match.
