KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team scored four goals in the final quarter to draw the game within one, but the Wolves lost to Wells College 8-7 on Thursday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Keuka College closes the season with a 1-13 record.
Brooke Bonetti led the Wolves with four goals in the game.
Lauren Vitello posted eight saves in the final game of the season.
Wells College 8 at Keuka College 7
The two teams combined for just two goals in a tightly played first quarter. Wells struck first off of a free position with 2:36 left in the frame to take the lead.
Brooke Bonetti answered in the closing seconds with
Grace Morse getting the assist to tie the game at 1-1. Vitello made five saves in the first quarter to hold the Express to just one goal.
Bonetti won the opening draw of the second quarter and scored to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead, but Wells won the draw and answered with a goal 24 seconds later to tie the game. The Express repeated the feat, scoring 16 seconds after that, to take the lead. After Wells made it 4-2,
Brooke Bonetti completed the hat trick, scoring woman-down, to cut the lead to one. However, Wells pushed the margin back to two and led 5-3 at the half.
The defenses reigned for both teams in the third quarter. Wells had four shots but none on goal. The Wolves put two of their three shots on cage but were saved. It was a scoreless 15 minutes as Wells kept their two-goal lead going to the final quarter.
Wells snapped the 20-minute scoreless streak with a goal early in the fourth. They pushed their lead to 7-3. Looking to keep the game in reach,
Brooke Bonetti collected the ensuing draw and ripped a shot from distance to score 10 seconds later, making it 7-4. Bonetti won the following draw as well and the ball got worked to
Grace Morse for the goal to make it a two-goal game. Wells pushed their lead back to three midway through the frame, but
Julia Bauder scored for the Wolves to make it 8-6 with 5:10 left to play. The clock would work down to the final minute.
Tori Nelson scored for the Wolves with 14 seconds remaining to make it a one-goal game, however, Wells won the draw to see out the 8-7 victory.

- Despite the result, Keuka College remains ahead in the all-time series 20-2 against Wells College
- The eight saves by Lauren Vitello gives her 142 in her first season, the second-most in a season in program history
- 142 saves for Vitello also ranks fifth on the career save list
- Senior Jillian McGinley finished her career with 102 ground balls and 64 caused turnovers. She will graduate ranked sixth for caused turnovers in a career and tenth in ground balls
