HORSEHEADS, N.Y. — Keuka College Softball dropped two games to Elmira College on Sunday afternoon. The Wolves lost game one in the bottom of the seventh on a Soaring Eagles walk-off double and dropped game two 14-6.
Keuka College (9-14, 3-5 Empire 8) had three athletes post hits in both contests.
Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) recorded four hits on the day, while
Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) and
Emily VanDelinder (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) each added three hits.
Elmira College 7 – Keuka College 6
After a scoreless first two and a half innings, the Soaring Eagles were the first to strike. Elmira scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning but the Wolves had an answer. The top of the fourth began with a triple from
Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West). Eagen was brought home right away on an
Emily VanDelinder single to get the Wolves on the board.
The Keuka defense held Elmira off the board in the bottom of the fourth and quickly went to work on offense in the top of the fifth. The inning began with back-to-back singles from
Olivia Flynn and
Hailey Jasinski to give the Wolves two baserunners. On a fly ball to the outfield, Flynn advanced to third on the throw. Shortly after, Jasinski stole second base.
Grace Eagen collected another RBI with a single to bring Flynn home, advancing Jasinski to third. Eagen proceeded to steal second base and both runners were brought home on another single from VanDelinder. The game went into the bottom of the fifth with the Wolves up 4-2.
In the top of the sixth, the Wolves added to their lead. With two outs,
Olivia Flynn hit a single to give Keuka a baserunner and she proceeded to second base on a wild pitch.
Hailey Jasinski hit an RBI single to bring Flynn in to score.
Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) then put the ball in the outfield and made it to third on an error. The error also brought Jasinski home to give the Wolves a 6-2 lead.
Pitcher
Olivia Flynn sat down the next three batters as they hit infield pop-ups to end the inning. After the Wolves left one on base in the top of the seventh, Elmira fought for the comeback. The Soaring Eagles scored five runs in the last half inning ending with a walk-off double to win game one 7-6.
Elmira College 14 – Keuka College 6 (5 innings)
The Soaring Eagles controlled the beginning of the game, scoring eight runs across three innings while keeping the Wolves off the board. In the top of the fourth,
Lauren Gilbert (Owego, N.Y. / Owego Free Academy) hit a home run to give Keuka their first score of the game.
Elmira scored another four unanswered runs to give them a 12-1 lead. The Wolves found their offensive stride in the top of the fifth inning. After
Haley Mascho (Bolivar, N.Y. / Bolivar-Richburg) drew a walk,
Olivia Flynn doubled to give the Wolves two baserunners. On a fielder's choice play, Mascho made it home to score and Flynn advanced to third.
Hailey Jasinski then added another single to her day and brought Flynn home.
Emily VanDelinder followed it up with an RBI single and moved the runner to second. A final throwing error would bring in two additional runs to bring the game to a 12-6 score.
In the bottom of the fifth, Elmira added two runs to their lead. The game ended after five innings 14-6 in the Soaring Eagle's favor.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will host Hilbert College on Wednesday, April 23 for a non-conference doubleheader. The games are set to begin at 3 p.m.
