Wolves Win First Game of 2024

Wolves Win First Game of 2024
CLERMONT, Fla. — The Keuka College Softball team had a triple header in Florida and recorded their first win of the 2024 season.
The Wolves started the day with an 11-3 win over Knox College, lost game two 10-2 to Worcester State University, and finally, fell to St. Lawrence University 14-4 Thursday evening.

Keuka College 11 vs. Knox College 3 – 6 innings

The Prairie Fire were the first team on the board with an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The score would remain the same until the Wolves found their offensive rhythm in the top of the third. The hot streak started with an Emily VanDelinder (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) double and she was brought around the bases on a Knox error to score. The next four batters up for Keuka all recorded hits and would bring in two additional runs. The final run scored for the Wolves in the third was on another Knox error and Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) was able to make it home for a 5-1 score in Keuka's favor.

Knox College put another run on the board, but the Wolves kept their momentum at the plate and had another big inning. In the top of the fifth, Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) singled to start the inning. She advanced to second when Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) put the ball in play and forced a Prairie Fire error. This brought up Hailey Jasinski and she hit an RBI double and put runners on second and third. After Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) worked the plate and drew a walk, the next three Keuka batters Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West, Kaitlyn Holland (Leicester, N.Y. / York), and VanDelinder all singled which brought in two more runs to end the top of the fifth up 8-2. Pitcher Olivia Flynn continued her work on the mound and sat down the next three Knox batters to send the game into the sixth.

In the top of the sixth, the Wolves were ready to seal the deal. Haley Mascho (Bolivar, N.Y. / Bolivar-Richburg) started the inning out strong with a single. Hailey Jasinski hit a double and moved Mascho over to put two runners on base. This brought DeMoney to the plate and she found the other side of the fence with a three-run home run and brought the game to 11-2. Knox College earned a run back in the bottom of the sixth, but the lead was too large for them to close. Keuka won on the eight-run rule in the bottom of the sixth, 11-3.

Worcester State University 10 vs. Keuka College 2 6 innings
After a scoreless first inning, the Lancers found their offensive stride in the top of the second, scoring five runs and one in the third. In the bottom of the third inning, Emily Cutrona found some green, singled to right field, and then stole second base. Hailey Jasinski followed it up with another single that brought Cutrona home for the first Keuka run.
Worcester State added three runs to their lead, but the Wolves gained one back. Hali Jenner (Waverly, N.Y. Waverly) singled and Haley Mascho drew a walk to put runners on base. Cutrona singled up the middle to load the bases for The Green and Gold. Olivia Flynn was up at the plate and brought in a run with a single to center field. The Lancers would go on to score one more to put the game away at 10-2.

With two outs, Makenna DeMoney was at the plate and hit an RBI double which brought the game to 4-1 St. Lawrence.

The Saints continued to add to their lead and Keuka tried to chip away at it. In the bottom of the fifth, with St. Lawrence up 9-1, the Wolves added another run. Olivia Flynn got on base with a single to the right side, and Makenna DeMoney brought her around the bases for a score with a double to right field.
