Box Score UTICA, N.Y.— The Keuka College Women's Basketball drops an Empire 8 game on the road at Utica University 76-44 on Monday night.
Leading the way for Keuka College (1-21, 0-14 Empire 8) was Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) with 12 points. Meghan Ellis (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) would give the Wolves seven points and three rebounds. Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) added six rebounds in the loss.
Utica University 76 – Keuka College 44
The Wolves put the first points on the board with a three-point basket from Meghan Ellis and a layup by Katie Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman). The Pioneers would then go on a 17-3 run to give them an early lead. Maddie Kramer (Ringtown, Pa. / Nativity BVM) drove to the hoop for a solo bucket with 2:05 left in the first. The game would head into the second quarter with the Wolves down 20-10.
Utica would come out strong in the second to go on a 12-1 run, forcing a Keuka timeout. Sydney Brown then gave the Wolves their first points of the quarter with a pair of free-throws on two separate trips to the line. An offensive rebound and pass from Katie Deatherage would result in a Janea Hamilton-Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) field goal. The Green and Gold will look to close the gap in the second half, down 44-14 at the break.
On the first possession of the second half, Katie Deatherage makes a driving layup to get Keuka on the board. Utica continued their offensive success and added to their lead, the game heads to the fourth 63-26.
The Wolves would score on their opening possession again with a basket from inside the paint by Meghan Ellis. From there, Keuka would score the opening six points of the frame. Mary Cotter went on a seven-point solo run consisting of three field goals and a free throw with 5:24 left to play. In the final quarter, the Green and Gold would outscore Utica 18-13. However, the gap was too large to close, and the Pioneers would take the game 76-44.
