ERIE, PA. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team faced a tough challenge against Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon, the Wolves fell 88-50 in the non-conference matchup.
Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) and
Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) led the Wolves in scoring, each recording 10 points. Cotter added two rebounds and an assist, while Burd grabbed four rebounds.
Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) contributed nine points and three rebounds.
Penn State Behrend 88 vs. Keuka College 50
The Wolves started strong in the first quarter, shooting 50% from the field and keeping the game tight.
Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) opened the scoring for Keuka with a three-pointer assisted by
Mary Cotter to give the Wolves an early lead.
Caiden Crego (Lyons, N.Y. / Lyons) added two layups that brought Keuka within one point.
Mary Cotter contributed by hitting a jumper at the 6:22 mark and converting the free throw for a three-point play. She followed that up with another jumper just a minute later to extend the Wolves lead. Penn St Behrend pulled back ahead, but
Janea Hamilton-Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) capped the quarter with a buzzer-beater jumper to narrow the deficit to 24-22.
Keuka remained competitive in the second quarter, keeping pace with Penn State Behrend in the opening minutes.
Sydney Brown connected on a three-pointer off a pass from
Caiden Crego at the 7 minute mark to pull the Wolves within three.
Brooke Burd broke up a scoring drought with a layup at 4:40, and then 3 baskets in the final 90 seconds saw the Wolves entering the half down 10 points, 34-44.
The second half was controlled by Penn State Behrend, who surged ahead with a strong third quarter. The Wolves struggled offensively, shooting just 15.4% in the third, with their only points coming from a layup by
Brooke Burd and a three-pointer from Hamilton-Brown. Despite the tough stretch, Keuka showed resilience in the fourth quarter, with
Brooke Burd making two more baskets inside and
Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) scoring inside after grabbing an offensive rebound.
Janea Hamilton-Brown added a late three-pointer, but the Lions scoring and control of the boards proved insurmountable. The Wolves dropped the final game of the first semester, 88-50.
