Second-Half Goal Downs Keuka Against Oswego State

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — A goal in the 74th minute was the difference on Tuesday as the Keuka College Women's Soccer team lost to Oswego State 1-0 in a non-conference game.

Sam Pelcher made 11 saves in goal for Keuka College (1-5-1, 1-0 Empire 8).

Both teams had possession in the first half, but neither team was able to produce any quality scoring chances. Sam Pelcher made four saves in the opening frame, but none of the attempts by the Lakers were overly dangerous. Keuka had a chance from first-year Rilee Nunan. The substitute got behind the line on a break and let a 30-yard chance go, catching the Laker keeper off the line, but it was just wide of frame. Nunan had another build-up late in the half but it was called back for offsides.

Coming out of halftime, the Lakers increased the pressure on the Wolves. Keuka College was able to develop some scoring chances against the run of play. Parker Lahey found herself alone at the top of the box following a failed corner clear by Oswego, but her shot went high. The Wolves continued to test the defense with runs, but Oswego's back line stood strong against the pressure. Oswego nearly pulled ahead in the 72nd minute as a shot went off the crossbar and sat in the goal mouth, but Peyton Steates cleared the ball wide. Minutes later, however, Oswego would connect on a long ball and get behind a charging keeper for a goal. The Wolves were unable to generate much pressure after falling behind. Ciarra Rudnick had the best chance as she got behind the left-back and charged to goal. Unfortunately for Keuka, the shot was jus wide into the side netting. The Lakers held on for the 1-0 road victory.

KC Notes:

  • The Wolves fall to 5-10-1 all-time against Oswego State
  • The Lakers held the advantage in most offensive categories, including outshooting Keuka College 17-7 and a 10-1 edge in corners
  • The 11 saves by Pelcher was a season-high and also tied her career-high

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves look to move to 2-0 in the Empire 8 conference with their first league road game of the year. The Green and Gold will travel to Albany on Saturday to face Russell Sage College.
