SCRANTON, Pa. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team had a strong Saturday, sweeping the Marywood University Tri-Match.
Keuka College (7-3) won the opening match against Alvernia University in five sets. The Wolves then swept the host Pacers in three sets in the nightcap.
Keuka College 3 vs. Alvernia University 2 – 18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 18-25, 15-13
The Golden Wolves were ready to go on Saturday as they hit 13 kills against just one error to win the opening set over Keuka 25-18.
Keuka College used a large run, that included a pair of aces by
Jessica Throop. to build a 13-4 lead over Alvernia. Keuka College pushed the lead to double-digits at 23-9 following an ace by
Caitlynne Marczyk.
Dayna Edholm ended the set at 25-15 with a kill to level the match at 1-1.
Alvernia quickly squashed the Wolves' momentum as the Golden Wolves jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the third. Keuka College was unphased, however, as the Green and Gold scored six straight to tie the set. Alvernia would nudge back ahead 15-11, but the Wolves went on another run. Keuka College scored eight straight to take control of the set. Edholm hit a pair of kills to close out the third 25-22 and give Keuka College a 2-1 lead in the match.
Alvernia extended the match, winning the fourth set 25-18, to force a fifth set.
The two teams traded points and runs early in the fifth set. Alvernia would force the change-over at 8-6 and extend their lead to 12-9 over the Wolves. Keuka College would not quit. Three straight points for the Wolves tied the set at 12-12. Alvernia stopped the run, but the Green and Gold scored the next three points to win the fifth 15-13 and the match 3-2.
Lead Wolf: Dayna Edholm continued her strong start to the season. The senior had 19 kills and added 24 digs in the five-set victory.
Keuka College 3 at Marywood University 0 – 25-18, 25-23, 25-23
Marywood took an early 4-1 lead over the Wolves, but Keuka responded with six straight points to take a 7-4 lead. The set would stay close and be tied at 15-15.
Ava Hubbard gave the Wolves the lead with a kill and
Jessica Throop followed with a pair of aces. Keuka College won nine of the next 10 points to lead the first 24-16. The Wolves closed it out for the first-set victory.
The second set was close to start with the teams trading points. Marywood would score five straight in the middle of the set to build a 19-16 lead over the Wolves. The Pacers extended their lead 23-19, but Keuka would go on a run. Six straight points, capped by a
Sarah Paradiso kill, to rally back and win the second set 25-23.
The third set played just like the others with a close start to the set. Trailing by three, Keuka College scored 10 straight to take a 17-10 lead over the Pacers. The run did not secure the set for Keuka, however. Later in the frame, Marywood scored eight straight to take a 23-20 lead over the Wolves. A kill by
Camey Knapp ended the run.
Kendra Waltz served an ace, and Edholm followed with a kill to tie the set at 23-23. Waltz then closed it out with two more aces to win the third 25-23 as the Wolves swept the match.
Lead Wolf: Camey Knapp followed a career-high 13 kills in the first match with a team-high 11 kills against Marywood.

- Saturday was Keuka's first-ever match against Alvernia. Keuka College improves to 2-3 all-time against Marywood
- The offense flowed through Casey Hunziker in both matches. She recorded 49 assists against Alvernia and 30 against Marywood
- She became just the sixth player to surpass 1,400 career assists at Keuka College. Her 49 against the Golden Wolves tied for the ninth-most in a five-set match in program history
- Emma Sipos recorded 25 digs against the Golden Wolves and 10 against the Pacers
Up Next for Keuka College: It is the same script for Keuka College Women's Volleyball next weekend. The Wolves will play in a tri-match in Pennsylvania. This time, Keuka College will play at Pitt.-Bradford and face the host Panthers and Penn College.
