Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Opening Day

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Volleyball Team won both of their matches on Friday to kick off the 2023 season.

Keuka College (2-0, 0-0 E8) defeated Hilbert College 3-1 in their first match. The Wolves then went on to win their second match against SUNY Cobleskill 3-0.

Keuka College 3 vs Hilbert College 1 – 25-8, 19-25, 25-19, 25-15
The Wolves opened their season strong jumping out to an early lead and staying ahead in the first set. Casey Hunziker (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) led the Wolves with five of the eight service aces in the set. The Green & Gold hit their stride when the game reached 10-7 and would go on to score 12 consecutive points bringing the score to 22-7. The Hawks got one back, but it was not enough to stop the Wolves' momentum, leading them to a 25-8 win.

The Hawks fought back in the second set, leading most of the time. The Wolves' serves kept them in the game with a team total of 11 aces, but it was not enough to top the Hawks as they took the second set 25-19.
The Wolves got their revenge winning the third set 25-19 and went on to win the fourth 25-15. Dayna Edholm (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) led the Wolves' offense with 10 kills, Hunziker racked up 31 assists, and Kendra Waltz (Morrisville, NY/Morrisville/Eaton) led the defense with 21 digs.

Lead Wolf: Senior Casey Hunziker started the 2023 season strong with 31 assists, eight aces, and one block in game one to help lead the Wolves to their first win of the season.

Keuka College 3 vs SUNY Cobleskill 0 – 25-21, 25-18, 25-14
The Green & Gold did not lose momentum going into their second game. The score was even at the start, but after being tied at 14, the Wolves offense hit their stride and began to pull away. Seniors Dayna Edholm and Sarah Paradiso (Fort Plain, NY/ Fort Plain) tallied four kills a piece in the first set to bring the Wolves to a 25-21 win.

The Wolves' offense continued to thrive in the second and third set. Edholm would finish the game with 16 kills while Paradiso would earn 11 of her own. Hunziker had another great game with 33 assists and 3 aces, and the Wolves' shutdown defense would lead them to a 25-18 win in the second set and a 25-14 win in the third.

Lead Wolf: Dayna Edholm led the Wolves' offense with an impressive sixteen kills in game two. The Senior also recorded 15 digs in the game.

  • Keuka College is 30-3 against the Hilbert College Hawks and 21-1 against SUNY Cobleskill all-time.
  • The Wolves are now 6-0 at home against SUNY Cobleskill all-time.
  • The Wolves had a team total of 19 aces in game one. This ranks fifth in program history in a 4 sets match.
  • Satah Paradiso had a new single game best with 11 kills against SUNY Cobleskill.
Up Next for Keuka College: Keuka College Women's Volleyball is back at home tomorrow for the second day of their home Fall tournament. The Wolves start the day against MCLA at 11:00 am and after a one-game break will face off with SUNY Canton at 3:00 pm.
