Wolves Soar Past Hawks

GOWANDA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team defeated Hilbert College 7-2 in a non-conference game played at Gowanda High School.

Shane Daley and Brady Booher each had three hits in the game for Keuka College (4-10, 0-3 Empire 8). Jesse Capitano earned the victory on the mound, pitching six innings and striking out seven.

The Hawks used a pair of walks and a single in the bottom of the first to take a one-run lead. The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the home team until the fourth inning.

After Josh Tryon was hit by the pitch, Brady Booher reached on a three-base error that scored Tryon and left him on third base. Booher scored on an RBI single by EJ Martinez. Ethan Drinon doubled and then he and Martinez scored on a two-run, two-out single by Shane Daly to give the Wolves a 4-1 lead.

The Wolves added a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Matt Vaccaro. Capitano would end his outing strong, retiring Hilbert in order in the bottom of the inning, capping it off with a strikeout.

Josh Tryon connected for a solo home run in the seventh. RJ Murphy added an RBI single in the eighth. The Hawks got one back in the bottom of the inning but Kole Schmerder closed it out, pitching the final three innings in the 7-2 victory.

  • Keuka College won its sixth straight against Hilbert College. The Wolves improved to 20-9 all-time against the Hawks
  • Jesse Capitano set a new career-high with seven strikeouts while earning his first career win
  • It was the first three-hit game for Booher and Daley
  • Tryon's solo shot in the seventh was his first of the season and second of his career
  • Keuka College now has four home runs on the season, the most since the 2019 campaign
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves get right back on the field on Friday as they open their Empire 8 Conference series with Utica University. Keuka College will face the Pioneers in a single game on Friday and then a doubleheader on Saturday. Due to field conditions, the game has been moved from Keuka College and will be played at Houghton University.
