ROCHESTER, N.Y. - On Sunday afternoon, the Keuka College Softball team lost two games to Empire 8 opponent Nazareth College.
Keuka College (8-20, 2-8 E8) lost to Nazareth College 14-4 after five innings in game one. The Wolves then lost game two 6-5 in 10 innings.
Keuka College 4 at Nazareth College 14 – Game One – 5 Innings
Gameplay started even between the Wolves and Golden Eagles in game one. Nazareth struck in the bottom of the second, scoring one run off two Wolves errors and a single.
The Golden Eagles jumped up to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Wolves came right back in the top of the fifth.
Hali Jenner (Waverly, N.Y. / Waverly) led off with a single to center field followed by singles from
Kaitlyn Holland (Leicester, N.Y. / York) and
Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) to load the bases.
Hannah Longley (Hannibal, N.Y. / Hannibal) followed with a triple down the left field line to score all three runners on base.
Helena Hill (Akron, N.Y./ Akron) hit an infield grounder to score Longley and bring the score to 5-4.
The Golden Eagles had a big inning in the bottom of the fifth scoring nine more runs, bringing the final score to 14-4 and winning game one.
Lead Wolf: Freshman
Hannah Longley led the Wolves' offense going two-for-three at the plate. Longley had a triple to knock in three RBIs and scored one run for the team along with a stolen base. This was Longley's first career triple as a Wolf and the Freshman now has seven stolen bases in the 2023 season. Â
Keuka College 5 at Nazareth College 6 – Game Two – 10 Innings
The Wolves jumped up first in game two.
Helena Hill walked in the top of the first and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.
Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) followed with an infield single which scored Hill to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles came right back jumping up to a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the third,
Helena Hill led off with a single, and
Kelsey Mohl (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) knocked in Hill with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Grace Eagen then came up to knock in DeMoney giving the Wolves the 3-2 lead.
Nazareth came right back again taking the lead 4-3, but
Makenna DeMoney came to bat and homered over the left field fence to tie the game. Again, the Golden Eagles went up 5-4, but
Kaitlyn Holland singled through the left side to tie the game at five.
The game went into extra innings as neither team could score the winning run. The Wolves had their chance in the top of the 10
th after
Hali Jenner was placed on second to start the inning.
Hannah Longley singled to center, but Jenner was thrown out at the plate trying to score. The Golden Eagles came up in the bottom of the tenth and scored the winning run from a sacrifice bunt and a Wolves error. The Golden Eagles would win game two 6-5 after ten innings of play.
Lead Wolf: Freshman
Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) may have gotten the loss in the circle, but pitched 5.2 innings, only allowing two hits and one unearned run. Flynn struck out three with no walks and recorded a double at the plate.

- The Keuka College Softball team is 8-14 all-time against the Nazareth College Golden Flyers.
- Freshmen Kaitlyn Holland and Grace Eagen each improved to a five-game hitting streak after today's doubleheader.
- Hannah Longley tied the single-game record for most at-bats in a game with six.
- Olivia Flynn faced 20 batters on the mound in game two, a new career high.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Keuka College Softball team continues their season on the road with two mid-week non-conference games. The Wolves will head to RIT for a 3:00 pm doubleheader on Tuesday, April 25
th. The Green & Gold will then head to Hilbert College for a 3:00 pm doubleheader on Wednesday, April 26
