Wolves Sweep Highlanders at Home

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Keuka College Softball team played an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at home against Houghton University on Saturday afternoon and won both games.

In game one, Keuka College (7-15, 2-6 Empire 8) defeated Houghton University 4-2. The Wolves then went on to defeat the Highlanders 9-0 in five innings in game two.

Gameplay started even for the Wolves and Highlanders. The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) singled in the first run of the game. Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) and Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) both doubled in the third bringing the score to 4-0 in the Wolves' favor.

Kelsey Mohl (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) shut down the Highlanders on the mound pitching five complete innings, allowing five hits, no runs, and four strikeouts.
 The Highlanders would try to rally in the bottom of the seventh scoring two, but it was not enough to come all the way back and the Wolves would take game one 4-2.

Lead Wolf: Senior Kelsey Mohl led the Wolves to the win pitching five shutout innings on the mound. Mohl also had a hit in the game and scored one of the Wolves' runs.
 
Keuka College 9 vs Houghton University 0– Game Two- 5 Innings
The Wolves carried their strong offense into game two. In the bottom of inning one, Kelsey Mohl singled to centerfield scoring the first run of the game for the Green & Gold.

Later, in the fourth inning, Emily VanDelinder (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) ripped a double to the left field wall putting the Wolves up 4-0. The Wolves' offense would not quit and a triple from Emily Cutrona in the fourth followed by a double from Jenna Villa (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) put the Wolves at 9-0.

Lauren Gilbert (Owego, N.Y. / Owego Free Academy) threw the full game in the circle for the Wolves. The Freshman struck out six while only allowing three hits and no runs.
 With the Highlanders unable to score, the Wolves would take game two of the doubleheader 9-0 after five innings.

Lead Wolf: Freshman Emily Cutrona would lead the Wolves' offense in game two. Cutrona went three-for-three at the plate with one triple, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Cutrona also had a stolen base in the game.

KC Notes:
  • The Keuka College Softball team is now 4-6 all-time against the Houghton University Highlanders.
  • The Wolves scored nine runs in game two against the Highlanders, the most against Houghton in the program's history.
  • Both Kelsey Mohl and Lauren Gilbert earned their first wins of the season in today's doubleheader.
