Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Alfred University

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team lost on Saturday to Alfred University 20-8 in an Empire 8 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (5-5, 0-4 Empire 8) was led by Devon Gerhardt with six total points. The sophomore had two goals and added four assists. Nicholas Pipher added two goals and an assist for the Wolves.

The Wolves jumped out to the early lead over the Saxons on Saturday. Matt Jerman scored the opening tally just over two minutes into the contest with Devon Gerhardt getting the assist. Minutes later, Brandon MacDonell set up Nicholas Pipher for the goal to give the Wolves a 2-0 advantage. The Saxons took advantage of a pair of Keuka College penalties to score two man-up goals to tie the game at 2-2. That started a 6-0 run for the Saxons who led 6-2 after the first.

The second quarter was dictated by Alfred University. The Saxons continued their run, pushing the total to 14 unanswered goals. Dylan Hoad made 12 saves in goal in the opening half, but the Saxons led 14-2 at the break.

The Saxons extended their run to 17, scoring three goals in the first 2:20 of the third quarter. The Wolves ended the run with 10:49 left in the third as Devon Gerhardt found Brandon MacDonell for the goal. The Saxons answered but Gerhardt matched the goal with one of his own. The teams would trade goals again with Dylan DeLucia getting the tally, but the Wolves traded 19-5 after three.

Keuka College continued to fight in the final quarter. They outscored the Saxons 3-1 in the frame with Gerhardt, Kyle Murphy, and Pipher getting the goals but the game was in hand for the Saxons as they defeated the Wolves 20-8.

  • Keuka College has lost four straight to the Saxons and fall to 2-10 all-time
  • Dylan Hoad finished with 17 saves in the game. Hoad moved to seventh on the career saves list at Keuka with 242
  • With his four assists, Devon Gerhardt now has 26 assists on the year, tying for tenth on the Keuka College single-season list
  • Robert Hill had a pair of caused turnovers and a team-high four ground balls. Hill moved into a tie for eighth on the career caused turnover list.
