Wolves Fall at Alfred in Women’s Lacrosse

ALFRED, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team lost at Alfred University 18-9 in their Empire 8 Conference opener on Friday night.

Keuka College (1-5, 0-1 Empire 8) was led by Brooke Bonetti with three goals. Sister Sadie Bonetti had a team-high five points with two goals and three assists on Friday.

The Saxons scored first, but the Wolves answered quickly. Less than a minute after falling behind, Sadie Bonetti worked the ball behind the goal. She passed it directly over the cage to a cutting Maddie Fassinger who scored to make it 1-1. Alfred answered right back with a goal of their own 34 seconds later and then extended their lead to 3-1. Keuka cut it back to one goal twice in the quarter on goals by Brooke Bonetti and Madeline Greene. However, the Wolves would not be able to tie the game and Alfred led 6-3 after the first.

Alfred quickly struck in the second quarter with a pair of goals in the first 1:03. The Saxons would score five straight to push their lead to 11-3. Maddie Fassinger ended the run with her second goal of the game, but the momentum stayed with Alfred as they scored 27 seconds later. Brooke Bonetti added a late goal, but the Wolves trailed 12-5 at the half.

Alfred scored the first four goals of the second half. Sadie Bonetti got Keuka's lone goal of the third off of a free-position shot. Alfred led by 10 going into the final quarter.

The hosts added two more goals to start the fourth quarter. The Wolves scored the next three with Bonetti, Bonetti, and Grace Morse getting the goals, but the Wolves would fall 18-9 on Saturday night.

  • Despite the loss, Keuka College remains ahead of Alfred 9-5 in the all-time series
  • It was Keuka's first loss at Alfred University since the 2010 season
  • The Saxons controlled the play from the draw, winning 22 of 31 draw controls. Maddie Fassinger led the Wolves with five draw controls
  • Alyssa Chase made eight saves in goal. The sophomore moved into eighth place on the career saves list at Keuka College
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves are back in action on Wednesday as they face SUNY Morrisville in non-conference action. Keuka College will host the Mustangs on April 5 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. Opening draw is slated for 4 p.m.
