Wolves Downed at Elmira College 65-45

ELMIRA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost at Elmira College 65-45 in an Empire 8 game on Friday night.

Freshman Mary Cotter led Keuka College (3-19, 0-15 Empire 8) with 11 points. Lauren Hill finished with a team-high seven rebounds and four assists for the Wolves.

Elmira College jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but the Wolves answered back with a three and jumper by Sydney Brown to tie the game. Elmira took the lead back. Killian Mahoney accounted for the rest of the scoring for the Wolves, hitting a pair of threes in the quarter, but the Soaring Eagles led 16-11 after one.

The hosts extended their lead to double digits early in the second quarter. Meg McGwin laid it in as the Wolves cut the margin back down to six with five minutes left in the half. However, Elmira closed the half on an 11-0 run over the final five minutes to lead 34-19 at the half.

The run for Elmira continued into the second half as the Soaring Eagles scored the first 11 points of the frame. A three by Mary Cotter ended the run with six minutes left in the third. The game was in control for the hosts as Elmira led 34-56 after three.

Cotter made an early three for the Wolves as Keuka scored six unanswered to make it 57-40, but 17 points would be as close as Keuka would cut it in the fourth as the Wolves fell to the Soaring Eagles 65-45.

  • Ellen Lavonas and Meg McGwin each had six rebounds on Friday. Lavonas surpassed 100 in her career and McGwin set a new personal best for rebounds in a season
