Wolves Drop Tri-Match at St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in a tri-match hosted by St. John Fisher University on Saturday.

Keuka College (18-6, 6-2 Empire 8) lost the opening Empire 8 Conference match to St. John Fisher in three sets. The Wolves were then swept in a non-conference match to Misericordia.

St. John Fisher University 3 vs. Keuka College 0 – 25-20, 25-20, 25-20
The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead over the Wolves on Saturday. The Wolves came back to tie the set on the serve of Casey Hunziker at 9-9, but St. John Fisher answered with five straight to regain the lead. A kill by Megan McCann snapped the run with the Cardinals leading 14-10. The hosts continued to push their advantage, however, building a nine-point lead over the Wolves. Facing set point, the Wolves extended the first again on the serve of Hunziker, but St. John Fisher took the opener 25-20.

The Wolves held an early lead against St. John Fisher in the second, but the Cardinals came back to tie it at 8-8 and take the lead themselves. Keuka College once again posed a late comeback, scoring four straight on Fisher's set point, but the Cardinals eventually finished it to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third, the Wolves scored four straight early as St. John Fisher took a timeout trailing 8-7. The break was helpful for the Cardinals as they took the next point to tie the set at eight. It would be a close frame with seven ties and three lead changes in the third. After Fisher was ahead, a kill by Sydney Haust tied the set at 15-15. The Wolves kept it close. Back-to-back kills by Nina Scott made it a one-point deficit for the Wolves, trailing 20-19. Again, St. John Fisher made good use of their timeout as they scored the next point after the break as well as the next three to push a four-point lead over the Wolves. The Cardinals finished out the match winning the third set 25-20.

Lead Wolf: Casey Hunziker led the Green and Gold in both assists and digs against the Cardinals. She had 28 assists and 14 digs in the loss. The senior has set a new personal season best for digs this year for Keuka.

Misericordia University 3 vs. Keuka College 0 – 25-13, 25-22, 25-14
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead over the Wolves on Saturday. Misericordia hit 15 kills in the opening set against just four for Keuka College. Misericordia won the opener 25-13.

Keuka College played their best set of the match in the second set, outhitting Misericordia 12-11. A kill by Ava Hubbard capped an 8-0 run for the Green and Gold, tying the set at 22-22. However, the Cougars ended the run and scored the final three points to win the second 25-22.

Misericordia led throughout the third set, winning the frame 25-14 to sweep the match.

Lead Wolf: Ava Hubbard and Camey Knapp led the Wolves with eight kills apiece against Misericordia.

KC Notes:
  • After snapping a long streak against Nazareth last night, Keuka College was unable to do the same against St. John Fisher on Saturday. Keuka falls to 1-19 all-time against the Cardinals with Fisher winning the last 18 meetings.
  • It was just the third meeting between Misericordia and Keuka. The Cougars have won two of the three meetings
  • Casey Hunziker had a combined 47 assists on Saturday. She now has 830 assists on the season, the sixth-most in program history
Up Next for Keuka College: Saturday closes the regular season for the Keuka College Women's Volleyball team but the Wolves have qualified for the Empire 8 Conference Tournament for the second time in the last three years. The full tournament schedule will be released later tonight and will feature a home game for the Wolves.
