WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team pushed their winning streak to five as they swept a tri-match at Lycoming College on Saturday.
Keuka College (15-4, 3-1 Empire 8) fell behind early but rallied to defeat Delaware Valley University in five sets. The Wolves then closed out the host Warriors in four sets to sweep the day.
Keuka College 3 vs. Delaware Valley University 2 – 25-27, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-13
It was a close opening set between the Wolves and Aggies as it would go extra points, but Delaware Valley pulled it out in the end 27-25. They then led most of the way in the second to take a 2-0 lead over the Wolves.
The Wolves would take the lead in the third set and hold on for the 25-17 victory in the third. Keuka built a 13-4 lead in the fourth set. After the Aggies drew it closer, another run pushed it to 19-11. A kill by
Camey Knapp ended the fourth 25-17 and forced a fifth set.
In the final set, Keuka took a 6-3 lead, but it would be Delaware Valley who forced the change-over at 8-7. The Wolves rallied to take a 10-9 lead, but the Aggies answered back to take a 12-10 advantage. Back-to-back kills by Knapp tied the set at 12-12, then two errors by the Aggies gave Keuka College match point. The Aggies pulled one back but
Dayna Edholm ended it with a kill to give the Wolves a 15-13 victory to win the match.
Lead Wolf: Emma Sipos made a major impact on the game without ever attempting an attack. The senior libero led the Wolves with 20 digs. She also led from the service line with seven aces for the Wolves, tying for the second-most in a five-set match in program history.
Keuka College 3 at Lycoming College 1 – 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-19
Lycoming led most of the way through the first set. The Wolves rallied, coming back to tie the first 22-22, but the Warriors closed it out to win the opening set.
Keuka took a quick 4-0 lead in the second set, but it again came down to the final points. A kill by Lycoming tied the second at 23-23. Two straight kills for
Dayna Edholm, however, ended the second in favor of the Wolves 25-23.
The Wolves cruised in the third, hitting ten kills and Lycoming committed 11 errors for the 25-14 victory. Keuka College led most of the way in the fourth set as well. Like earlier, Lycoming attempted to get back into it, cutting the Keuka lead to one at 19-18, but the Wolves closed it out. The Green and Gold scored six of the final seven points to win the fourth 25-19 and take the match.
Lead Wolf: Senior
Dayna Edholm continued to be one the best players in the Empire 8. She set a new career high with 27 kills against Lycoming. It tied for the second-most in a four-set match in program history.
KC Notes:
- There was little history between Keuka College and their opponents on Saturday. It was the first-ever meeting between Keuka and Delaware Valley. The Green and Gold improved to 2-1 all-time against Lycoming
- With 47 kills on the day, Dayna Edholm now has 285 on the season, tying for tenth-most in a season in program history
- Senior setter Casey Hunziker had 100 assists on the day. She had 51 against the Aggies and 49 against the Warriors. Hunziker moved to fifth on the Keuka College Career Assists list
- Emma Sipos set a new career high for aces in a season, besting her total from 2021 at Finger Lakes CC. Also, combined with her season at FLCC, Sipos surpassed 1,000 career digs
- Camey Knapp set a new career high with 16 kills in the win over Delaware Valley
- Megan McCann posted a season-high 14 kills against Lycoming College
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves have five matches remaining in the regular season. Four of them come within the Empire 8 Conference and the next two are on Keuka's home floor. The Wolves will host Alfred University on Friday, Oct. 20 and Elmira College on Saturday, Oct. 21. Before the match against Alfred on Friday will be Keuka College's annual senior day celebration for the women's volleyball team.
