BOSTON, Mass. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball game lost its opening game in a tournament hosted by UMass.-Boston. The Wolves faced Maine Maritime Academy and lost 3-1 on Friday night.
The offense for Keuka College (0-5) was led by
Emma Sipos with seven kills and four aces.
Casey Hunziker had 22 assists for the Wolves and
Ava Hubbard finished with a team-high 16 digs.
Maine Maritime Academy 3 vs. Keuka College 1 – 25-11, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17
The Mariners jumped out to a fast start against Keuka College and did not look back. Maine Maritime took the opener 25-11.
Keuka College battled throughout the match. A kill by
Casey Hunziker gave the Wolves a 7-4 lead early in the second. Seven straight points by Maine Maritime later in the set gave them a 16-12 advantage. The run was stopped by a kill by
Emma Sipos. She would later draw the game to one point as Sipos hit back-to-back aces to cut the Mariner advantage to 19-18, but Maine Maritime pushed their lead back out. The Wolves survived four set-points, but would eventually fall 25-23 in the second set.
The narrow loss in the second set would not deter the Wolves as they continued to fight. The third set was another tightly fought set with 13 ties and five lead changes in the period. The set would be tied 20-20 until Cameron Knapp hit a kill. Two Mariner errors followed as Keuka built a small cushion. Knapp would finish the third with a kill as the Wolves won the set 25-21 to extend the match.
Maine Maritime took the early lead in the fourth, but the Wolves scored four straight to tie the set at 8-8. That would be the last tie for Keuka, however.
Casey Hunziker played on two to cut the lead to one at 15-14, but the Mariners responded with five straight to widen the lead. They would score 10 of the final 13 points as Maine Maritime won the fourth 25-17 to win the match 3-1.

- It was the first-ever volleyball match between Keuka College and Maine Maritime Academy
- This weekend in Boston is just the second time that Keuka College has competed in the state of Massachusetts. The Green and Gold previously played in a three-match tournament at Smith College in 2007
- Right behind Sipos with six kills apiece was Bryn Straub, Megan McCann, and Cameron Knapp
- New career bests were set by numerous Wolves. Ava Hubbard set a new career-high in digs. Setter Casey Hunziker set a new personal best with four kills. Sydney Haust set a new career-high with four aces.
- Larissa Battaglia saw her first collegiate action and recorded five digs
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will conclude the tournament at UMass.-Boston with two more games on Saturday. Keuka College will face New England College in the first match. The Wolves will then face the host Beacons to close the weekend tournament.
