KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Field Hockey team opened Empire 8 play on Saturday with a convincing 8-1 victory over Russell Sage College at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Keuka College (1-5, 1-0 Empire 8) had a trio of players all scoring a pair of goals.
Erin Patterson,
Laine Rogers, and
Tori Nelson all scored two goals in the win.
Highlighting the stat sheet was senior
Makaela Mills with a six-point game. The senior scored a goal and set a school record with four assists for the Wolves.
Keuka College 8 vs. Russell Sage College 1
The Wolves controlled the play in the opening quarter on Saturday. Keuka College struck first 5:28 into the game.
Erin Patterson had the ball near the left post and found
Kirstin Billings in the middle. Billings slide the ball past the goalie for the 1-0 lead. The Gators took advantage of a green card and pressured late in the quarter with a pair of corners, but the visitors were unable to generate a shot as Keuka remained ahead by one after the first quarter.
Keuka College continued to pressure in the second. Despite being one down due to a yellow card, the Wolves were able to generate a corner.
Alexis Dodge found
Tori Nelson at the top of the circle. Nelson's shot was deflected by
Laine Rogers and in for the 2-0 advantage. Patterson added a goal before half for the Wolves as Keuka led 3-0 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Wolves put the game away with four goals.
Laine Rogers opened it up with her second goal of the game.
Tori Nelson followed a minute later with a tally and
Erin Patterson picked up her second of the game three minutes after that. A long shot by
Makaela Mills capped the scoring in the quarter for the Wolves as Keuka College carried a 7-0 lead to the final quarter.
Russell Sage continued to play hard against Keuka. The Gators got a goal early in the fourth. Keuka College answered back with Nelson's second goal of the game. The Wolves would see the game out for the 8-1 conference victory.
