KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team won their first game of the 2022 season on Tuesday night, defeating Wells College in straight sets at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
Keuka College (1-7) was led by
Megan McCann and
Sydney Haust. Both were in double digits with 16 and 11 kills respectively.
Casey Hunziker set a new career-high with 37 assists in the win.
Keuka College 3 vs. Wells College 0 – 25-21, 25-21, 25-22
All three sets played on Tuesday would be very close. The first set between the Wolves and the Express had 12 ties and five lead changes. A pair of aces for Wells broke a 10-10 tie in the first and give the visitors a two-point lead. Keuka responded as a kill later by
Megan McCann tied the match at 13-13. Later in the set, McCann hit an ace and followed it with a kill to give the Wolves a 16-14 edge. Wells tied the set at 16, but the Wolves would pull ahead late. A kill by Cameron Knapp
gave the Wolves a four-point edge at 21-17.
Megan McCann would then finish the set at 25-21 with her eighth kill of the frame as the Wolves took the opener.
The second set was just as tight with 14 ties and seven lead changes. The Wolves took an early 11-7 lead, forcing Wells into a timeout, but the Express regrouped and tied the set at 12-12. The second would stay within two points for most of the remainder of the set. With the second tied at 21-21, a pair of Haust kills sandwiched a McCann kill as the Wolves took control 24-21. An error by Wells ended the second as Keuka College took a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Green and Gold took the first five points and controlled the set early. Wells did not back down as they slowly chipped in the Keuka advantage. The Express would tie the set at 16-16 and later take a 20-19 lead over Keuka College. However, the Wolves had the answers on Tuesday. Cameron Knapp tied the set at 20-20 with a kill.
Megan McCann followed with a kill of her own to take the lead.
Sydney Haust followed with an ace for Keuka as Wells College took a timeout down 22-20. It would be
Megan McCann who closed it out. The junior hit a kill off the Wells block to take the third 25-22 as the Wolves swept the match.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves remain at home this Saturday as Keuka College hosts SUNY Cobleskill at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. Like Wells, SUNY Cobleskill is a former conference-mate of Keuka College. The Wolves are 19-1 all-time against the Fighting Tigers, but SUNY Cobleskill defeated Keuka College in five sets last season.
