Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road at SUNY Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Saturday at SUNY Geneseo 69-31 in an early-season non-conference matchup.

Keuka College (1-1) was led by Sydney Brown with eight points. Freshman Mary Cotter was second on the team with six points.

The Knights opened with seven straight until the Meg McGwin knocked down a jumper for the Wolves. Geneseo responded with ten unanswered. Mary Cotter knocked down a three but the hosts were in control, leading 21-9 after the first.

It was a slow start for both teams in the second with only two points being put on the board in the opening five minutes. The teams would trade baskets, but Geneseo scored the final eight points to lead 35-13 at the half.

SUNY Geneseo continued the momentum into the second half, scoring the first nine points until Gianna Padula hit a jumper four minutes into the third. Sydney Brown made the final bucket of the third, hitting a three with Lauren Hill getting the assist but the Wolves trailed by 31 going into the final quarter.

Keuka College shot its best in the fourth quarter, going 4-8 from the floor and 2-3 from deep. Sydney Brown and Katie Deatherage hit the long balls for the Wolves. The final quarter would be 17-10 in favor of SUNY Geneseo as the Knights defeated the Wolves 69-31.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves have a week off before traveling to Pennsylvania for a tournament. Keuka College will compete in the Mountain Valley Tipoff Classic next weekend. The Wolves will open against Mount Aloysius College with the game being played at Penn State Altoona on Saturday. The Wolves will then face the Lions on Mount Aloysius' campus on Sunday afternoon.
