Wolves Fall to Nationally-Ranked Cardinals

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Friday to #23-ranked St. John Fisher College 61-36 in an Empire 8 Conference game at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College (1-14, 0-4 Empire 8) was led by Jenna LaMere and Lauren Hill with eight points apiece. Hill also tied her career-high with five steals in the game.

The visiting Cardinals jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Wolves early in the game on Friday night. Lauren Hill opened the scoring for the Wolves with a three. The Green and Gold relied on their three-point shooting in the quarter. Hill hit a pair and Jenna LaMere and Amelia Poole each added one for Keuka in the quarter. St. John Fisher College maintained its advantage and led 17-12 after one.

The second began like the first with St. John Fisher in the lead. The Cardinals scored 14 unanswered to build their lead. Amelia Poole hit a three for the Wolves with 3:40 left in the quarter to end the run. The Cardinals would lead 39-17 at the half.

Keuka College increased their defense and played a tight second half. After surrendering four points early in the third, Keuka College scored seven unanswered, capped by a Killian Mahoney three. The Cardinals answered with a small run of their own. The two teams tied the third 12-12, but the Cardinals remained ahead 51-29.

The Wolves scored on their first two trips up the floor but would only get a three by Mahoney the rest of the quarter. Keuka kept their defense tight, allowing only 10 points in the frame, but St. John Fisher College secured the 61-36 victory.

  • Keuka College is now 2-33 all-time against St. John Fisher College in a series that dates back to the 1975-76 season. The Cardinals have won 29 straight
  • The Keuka College Women's Basketball program remains on the hunt for their first victory over a ranked opponent. The Wolves have lost all 13 attempts in school history
  • The Wolves had the advantage from three, knocking down eight triples, but St. John Fisher used their size advantage down low, outscoring the Wolves 28-6 in the paint
  • Sydney Brown led Keuka with six rebounds on the night

Up Next for Keuka College: Keuka College will conclude their Empire 8 weekend on Saturday after as the Wolves host Elmira College at 2 p.m. The Green and Gold will look to avenge an eight-point loss at Elmira College earlier in January.
