Gators Top Wolves in the First Round of E8 Tournament

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Basketball team lost on Tuesday evening to Russell Sage College 79-58 in the first round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.  

Nana Oteng led Keuka College (1-9, 1-9 E8) with 21 points, 15 points being from behind the three-point line. DJ Billings added 10 in the loss.

The Wolves came out fast on Tuesday as Nana Oteng and Zayquan Warren made back to back threes in the opening two minutes of the game. The Wolves would keep the lead going with a layup by junior DJ Billings to make the score 10-4. The Gators would start to chip away at the Wolves lead but sophomore Nana Oteng would hit a three and a layup making the score 15-7. The Gators kept the pressure on the Wolves defense shortening the Keuka lead to six. The Gators took advantage of Keuka's miscues to tie the game at 25. Michael Mignone would hit a layup and the same on the other side of the court. Oteng and Devin Milton would hit two, threes for the Wovles before the end of the break. Russell Sage would lead 40-35 at the half.

Sage would hit the court going in the second half leading as much as 11 points in the first minutes. Keuka would try to chip away at the lead but the Gators would keep the pressure on Keuka's defense by going on a 17-26 run. Billings would answer back hitting a three pointer and teammate Zayquan Warren would go to the foul line. The Gators would continue to capitalize on the Wolves miscues. Nana Oteng hit a three and shorten the lead but Russell Sage would apply pressure on the Wolves defense as they extended the lead by 20. Oteng would hit a layup before the ending minutes but the Gators would remain in control as they went on to win 79-58.

  • This is Keuka Colleges First Empire 8 Touenamant game in history making this the third postseason appearance in the last 10 seasons.
  • Daniel Obunse would hit his 100th career point today.
  • DJ Billings would tie his career high with 12 threes in a season.
