Spurgeon's Streak Continues as Wolves Top Mustangs

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — Seth Spurgeon scored for the fourth straight game as the Keuka College Men's Soccer team defeated Morrisville State as a part of Green and Gold Celebration Weekend at Keuka College.

Jordan Miller added a goal for Keuka College (3-5-1, 2-2 NEAC) with Joshua Card earning the assist. Ryan Velte made three saves in goal to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Keuka College 2 vs. Morrisville State 1

The Wolves controlled possession early against Morrisville State, outshooting the Mustangs 10-3 in the first half. The Green and Gold pulled ahead in the 21st minute. Seth Spurgeon collected the ball outside of the box. He controlled the ball, spun around, and placed the ball just inside the right post for the 1-0 lead. The Wolves doubled their lead minutes later as Joshua Card sent a cross into the box and Jordan Miller connected on the other end of it to make it 2-0, a lead the Wolves would hold into halftime.

The Mustangs pressed the Wolves more in the second half as Keuka College did their best to usher their lead to full time. Morrisville State got one back where after discussion between the referee and assistant referee, the Mustangs were awarded a penalty kick. They converted the kick to make it 2-1. Morrisville State had an opportunity later in the half on a 2-1 break, but Thomas Callery back-tracked and won the ball in the box to end the threat. Keuka College would kill off the game as the Wolves defeated the Mustangs 2-1 on Saturday.

  • Keuka College snapped an eight-game winning streak to Morrisville State. The Wolves are now 6-9-1 all-time against the Mustangs.
  • Keuka has fared better at home than on the road that Morrisville State. The Wolves are 3-4-1 against Morrisville State at home
  • Seth Spurgeon's goal was his fourth of the season, setting a new career-high

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will step out of conference play on Tuesday as Keuka College travels to Houghton College to face the Highlanders. The Wolves defeated the Highlanders 3-0 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex last season.
