Men's Volleyball Tops D'Youville College in Home Opener

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Volleyball team won their home opener at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Saturday, defeated D'Youville College 3-1 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference match.

Keuka College (2-7, 1-0 NEAC) was led by 11 kills from Connor Gail and 10 kills by sophomore JP Nery. Chris Corcoran finished with 32 assists and Nick Cantando finished with a match-high 13 digs for the Wolves.

Keuka College 3 vs. D'Youville College 1 – 25-20, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23

Keuka College and D'Youville College played a very even opening set. The match was tied 12 times in the frame and there were six lead changes. Keuka College scored the final four points of the set, capped by an Alex Riley ace to win the first set 25-20.

The second set played out much like the first. The two teams played an even set with seven ties in the second. With the set tied at 21-21, Keuka College once again scored the final four points of the frame and ended the set on an ace. This time it was an ace by Chris Corcoran as the Wolves took a 2-0 lead in the match.

D'Youville College took an early lead over the Wolves and used small runs in scoring to build an advantage. Keuka College had their worst attacking set of the match with a match-high nine errors in the third. The Spartans extended the match with a 25-19 third set victory.

The Spartans led early in the fourth set. The set would be tied 12 times, but only had three lead changes. Down 14-11, Keuka College scored three straight on kills by Corcoran, Riley, and Gail to tie the set. D'Youville answered and held a 23-19 lead. Keuka rallied. They won the serve back on a kill by JP Nery. On the serve of Pat Dillon, the Wolves went on a run. Keuka College scored the final six points of the match, ending it on a block by Chris Corcoran and Alex Boglev to win the set 25-23, taking the match 3-1.

  • The Wolves improve to 5-4 all-time against D'Youville College
  • In a generally clean match, Keuka College out-hit D'Youville College .222 to .194
  • Nick Cantando's 13 digs pushed him past Tom Campbell '16 for seventh most in a career
  • Chris Corcoran had a pair of aces in the match. He passed Christopher Mooring '16 for sixth most in a career in program history. Alex Riley had one ace to tie Mooring on the list
  • JP Nery already set a new career high with 75 kills in just nine matches this season

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return to action next weekend as they host St. John Fisher College on Friday, February 23 at 7pm. It is the first meeting between the two schools as the Cardinals are in their first season of competition.
