SUNY Cobleskill Upends Keuka College in Men's Basketball

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Basketball team fell at home to SUNY Cobleskill 79-76 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division matchup.

Keuka College (10-11, 8-6 NEAC) was led by 18 points from Cliff Stevens. Greg Tyler added 13 points for the Wolves. Rounding out the double-digit scoring for the Green and Gold was David Oliveras and James Barnes, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.

SUNY Cobleskill 79 at Keuka College 76

Keuka College to an early lead over the Fighting Tigers, but a 9-0 run by SUNY Cobleskill gave them a lead seven minutes into the game. Seven unanswered by the Wolves bounced the lead back to them, 27-25. The game stayed close throughout the half. A late jumper by Trevor Powell gave Keuka a 37-35 lead at the half.

The lead would continue to bounce back and forth between the Wolves and the Fighting Tigers. Overall, there would be 10 lead changes in the game. SUNY Cobleskill would go on a run and take a 10-point lead over the Wolves, 57-47, with 11:43 left in the game. Keuka College fought to stay in the game. A three by Cliff Stevens cut the lead to one, 59-58, at just under seven minutes left to play. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Wolves would make it. SUNY Cobleskill held on at the end to defeat Keuka College 79-76 on Saturday.

  • Keuka College split the season series with SUNY Cobleskill. The Wolves lead the season series with the Fighting Tigers 12-8
  • Keuka College had a +15 rebounding advantage on Saturday
  • Both teams were an identical 28-59 from the floor. The difference was made with SUNY Cobleskill hitting two more threes than the Wolves and an additional free throw
  • Cliff Stevens had six rebounds in the game giving him 506 for his career. He passed Judd Leonhardt '02 for the sixth most in program history
  • With five free throws in the game, Greg Tyler now was 245 in his career, passing Trevor Healey '15 for fourth most in school history
  • Tyler also surpassed 700 points for his career

Up Next for Keuka College: Keuka College has two more games remaining in the regular season. The Wolves travel to Penn College on Wednesday before hosting Cazenovia College on Parents and Senior Day next Saturday at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
