Keuka College Loses to Wells in Men's Volleyball

AURORA, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Volleyball team fell in straight sets on Thursday night to Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference match.

Keuka College (2-5, 1-4 NEAC) was led by Connor Gail with 10 kills. Senior Jared Kucko added six kills in the loss. Chris Corcoran finished with 22 assists. Both Nick Cantando and Spencer Avery tied for the team lead with six digs for Keuka.

Keuka College 0 (19, 24, 19) at Wells College 3 (25, 26, 25)

In a primarily back and forth first set, the Express created separation in the middle of the set to pull away and win the first. In the second set, Keuka College led by as a many as five points. The Wolves had the serve up 24-22, but the Express had three straight kills and ended the set on a Keuka error to come back and take a 2-0 lead in the match. The third and final set was tied at 19-19, but Wells converted the final six points to win the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Lead Wolf: Sophomore Alex Riley had a strong game for the Wolves. He finished with five kills and no errors in 11 attempts for a .455 hitting percentage. Riley also had a pair of solo blocks and three assisted blocks, both match-highs.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College has dropped to 1-4 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference this season. All-time, the Wolves have a .500 record in the NEAC, going 24-24.
  • The Wolves fall to 2-6 against Wells College in conference play. Wells holds a 6-4 advantage overall in the series.
  • Riley's .455 hitting percentage is the third best all-time in program history for three-set matches
  • Connor Gail has now tied Devin Lesch for fifth on the all-time kills list with 246 in his career
  • Gail has also surpassed 500 career attacks to qualify for the career hitting percentage list. He ranks second currently with a .239 hitting percentage
  • Chris Corcoran had a pair of blocks tonight. He has 55 in his career, cracking the top 10 list for blocks in a career.

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves will play their first home game of the season next Wednesday as Keuka College hosts Elmira College at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center at 7pm. Elmira College is 4-14 on the season but has faced a very tough schedule. The Soaring Eagles has faced nine opponents ranked in the AVCA Top 15 and have posted a 1-8 record in those matches.
