Box Score KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Basketball used a second half rally to defeat the visiting Alfred State Pioneers 67-58 on Wednesday evening.
The Green and Gold improved their season record to 3-6. Keuka will travel to Wells College on Saturday to face the Express in a North Eastern Athletic Conference matchup.
Freshman Trevor Powell led the way for Keuka with a career-high 15 points. He also matched his career-best in rebounding with eight. Casey Williams and Greg Tyler each added 11 points in the victory. In his first career start, Devin Cooper tied Powell with eight rebounds on the night.
The Pioneers came out fast against Keuka on Wednesday. They took an early 7-0 lead over the Green and Gold. Greg Tyler snapped the early run with a three pointer four minutes into the contest. A personal 5-0 run by Casey Williams gave Keuka an early 10-9 lead over Alfred State, but the Pioneers answered quickly grew their lead out to five points, 17-12 with 10:37 left in the first. Cliff Stevens took his turn in the offense scoring nine straight points for Keuka against only one for the Pioneers. His final free throw extended the margin to three points, 21-18, in favor of Keuka with 6:28 left to play. Alfred State would close the half strong. They would make a layup with 30 seconds left to give them a 28-26 lead going into the locker rooms at halftime.
Both teams struggled to make shots in the second half. Six minutes into the second frame, Keuka had three points and Alfred State had only two for the half. The scoring would pick up, however. A three by Casey Williams gave Keuka a 32-30 lead with 13:41 left to play. The Green and Gold would not look back. Keuka went to the free throw line 27 times in the half, and converted that into 18 points. They grew their lead out to as many as 12 points and would go on to start 2016 off with a win, defeating Alfred State 67-58.
