Keuka College Tops D'Youville for First Victory

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Basketball team defeated D'Youville College onSaturday by the score of 87-83 in the consolation game of the Harold J. Brodie Tournament at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Keuka (1-2) will host Alfred University on Tuesday, November 24 at 6pm in the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

The Green and Gold had four players scoring in double-digits. They were led by Greg Tyler and James Outlaw who each set new career-highs with 16 points. Tyler showed consistency from the free-throw line going 9-10. Casey Williams finished with 13 points and Cliff Stevens had 10. Both Williams and Stevens had a team-high eight rebounds as well.

Casey Williams was named to the All-Tournament Team, averaging 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds on the weekend.

Keuka held a 52-40 rebounding advantage over the Spartans. The Green and Gold were able to turn 22 offensive rebounds into 21 second chance points. Keuka was also able to control the middle of the floor, scoring 42 points in the paint.

The two teams played a very balanced first half. D'Youville got out to an early lead, scoring the first five points of the game, but Keuka fought back. The Green and Gold went on a small run, capped by a James Outlaw layup to gain a five point lead, 17-12 with 12 minutes left in the half. Keuka remained ahead for most of the half. The Spartans would rally to tie the game, but were unable to take the lead until the final minutes of the half. Greg Tyler made a pair of free throws with a minute left to draw the game back level as the two teams went into halftime tied 40-40.

D'Youville once again scored the opening two buckets in the half for the early advantage. The Spartans grew their lead out to five, but Keuka would fight to stay in the game. A pair of free throws by Stevens and three pointer by Josh Wahnon tied the game. The Green and Gold would take the lead and a layup by James Outlaw gave them a six point advantage with eight minutes left to play. It would be the largest lead of game for Keuka. D'Youville was able to cut into the lead, making it a two points game with 40 seconds left to play. Jelani Fontanez made a layup for Keuka with 21 seconds left and the Green and Gold would continue onto the 87-83 victory.
