GENEVA, N.Y. – Hobart College used a 50 point second half to defeat Keuka College on Saturday afternoon by the score of 77-61.

Keuka (0-1) will return to action next Friday in the Harold J. Brodie Tournament at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Keuka will face Hamilton College at 6pm.

Senior Casey Williams led Keuka with 20 points in the game. Trevor Powell scored 13 in his debut for the Green and Gold. Greg Tyler was also in double-digits with 10 points. Cliff Stevens had a team-high eight rebounds.

Both teams took a while to get into the flow. Each team only had a bucket five minutes in as the game was tied 2-2. Powell scored four straight points for the early Keuka lead. The first half featured a handful of lead changes, with neither team taking too much of an advantage. Keuka shot 26% in the period. Hobart was not that much better at 32%, but the Statesmen carried a 27-25 lead into halftime.

Hobart extended their lead quickly in the second half. They held Keuka to just six points in the first ten minutes of play in the second. The Statesmen went on a 21-6 run to grow their lead to 48-31. A pair of free throws by Cliff Stevens with five minutes left in the game narrowed the margin to 12 points, 62-50, but behind 59% shooting in the half, Hobart would widen the lead back out to the 77-61 victory over Keuka.
