Stuart's Career Game Lifts Women's Hoops

Box Score

Sophomore Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, N.Y./Tupper Lake) matched her career-high with 18 points to power the Keuka College women's basketball team to a 48-44 win over Bryn Athyn College Sunday afternoon in Bryn Athyn, Pa.

Stuart connected on 54.5 percent of her shots from the floor (6 of 11) and went 2 of 4 on three-pointers to help the Wolfpack (2-8, 2-4 NEAC) snap a four-game losing streak.

Stuart also grabbed six rebounds while classmate Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie) grabbed a career-high nine rebounds as the Green and Gold enjoyed a 35-23 rebounding edge against the Lions (4-8, 3-4 NEAC).

Stuart's scoring outburst equaled her previous career-high of 18, set during a 72-56 win at SUNY Cobleskill Jan. 22, 2014.

Senior Erica Pendrak (New Hartford, N.Y./New York Mills) scored 10 points and added 5 steals with 4 assists, while classmate Brittany Hadley (Jasper, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) added eight points with five rebounds in the win.

It is the fifth time in the last six games Pendrak has reached double-figures in scoring.

Leading 46-44 with two seconds remaining, junior Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) clinched the win by hitting a pair of free throws.

The Wolfpack never led during the first half and trailed by as many as nine points, 24-15 with 3:41 remaining after Brittany Vick knocked down a triple.

Hadley made a free throw and a layup, and Pendrak grabbed a steal and hit a layup before the buzzer as the Wolfpack closed the half on a 5-0 run and trailed 24-20 at intermission.

Trailing 26-20, Blum hit a jumper to spark the Wolfpack on a 10-2 run to open the second. Hadley made a pair of free throws, Stuart hit a '3' and Pendrak gave Keuka its first lead when she buried a '3' for a 30-28 lead with 14:38 remaining.

Sydney LaBat made a layup to knot the score at 30, but Keuka went on an 8-1 run to take control.

Sophomore Chinyere Ukwu (Roosevelt, N.Y./St. Dominic) and Stuart each hit layups, Stuart hit a pair of free throws and Hadley capped the spurt on a layup halfway through the second as Keuka took a 38-31 lead.

Bryn Athyn sliced the lead to 40-38 on a '3' from Bianca Feliciano with 5:24 remaining, but Cole hit a layup, was fouled and converted the free throw for a 43-38 lead with 5:03 remaining.

A stingy Keuka defense blanked Bryn Athyn for 4:38 down the stretch to pull out the win.

Following four straight road games to open the second semester, Keuka's 2015 home opener is against Lancaster Bible College at 6 p.m. Friday night.
