Women's Hoops Falls at Morrisville

Senior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) scored 18 points and was one of three student-athletes to score in double figures, but the Keuka College women's basketball team fell to Morrisville State 63-57 Wednesday afternoon in Morrisville, N.Y.

Hadley shot 53.8 percent from the floor (7 of 13), including making both of her three-point attempts, while classmate Erica Pendrak (New Hartford, N.Y./New York Mills) recorded 14 points with seven rebounds for the Wolfpack (1-7, 1-3 NEAC).

Sophomore Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, N.Y./Tupper Lake) finished with 10 points and four rebounds for Keuka, which committed 23 turnovers in the loss to first-place Morrisville State (7-3, 3-0 NEAC).

It was Keuka's first loss to Morrisville State in 11 meetings.

Trailing 55-44, Hadley drove the lane, hit a layup and was fouled. She converted the three-point play to pull the Green and Gold within 55-47 with 3:47 remaining.

Following a Morrisville bucket, Pendrak made a '3' as Keuka trailed 57-50. Jennel Paul made a layup to extend the lead to nine, but Hadley spun and hit a lay-in to get the Wolfpack back within seven, 59-52.

The deficit grew to 61-53 before the Green and Gold got a free throw from Pendrak and a '3' from Hadley to trail 61-57 with nine seconds remaining. But Alyssa Gratien hit a pair of free throws to close out the game.

The Wolfpack fell behind 5-0, 10-5 and 14-7 to start the game, but Pendrak swished a triple and made a layup to trim the deficit to 16-12 with 13:15 left in the first.

Trailing 18-12, junior Meghan Ideman (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) buried a '3' to pull Keuka within three, 18-15.

The deficit shrunk to two, 20-18 when sophomore Tally McDonald (Romulus, N.Y./Romulus) hit a free throw with 8:20 remaining, but Morrisville used a 6-2 spurt to seize a 26-20 advantage with 5:12 left.

Blum hit a jumper and Pendrak buried a '3' to pull Keuka within 26-25, but the Mustangs responded with a 5-0 run and led 31-25 until Blum collected a missed shot and scored on a six-foot jumper as time expired.

Keuka trailed 31-27 at intermission.

Stuart made a layup and Hadley hit a jumper to trim the deficit to 33-31 1:20 into the second half, but the Mustangs used a 7-0 run to take a 40-31 lead.

Stuart snapped a scoreless streak of 6:30 with a triple from the right corner with 12:14 remaining, as Keuka closed within 40-34, but Morrisville went on a 14-5 run during an eight-minute stretch and led 47-36 halfway through the second.

The deficit grew to 50-36 before Hadley hit a layup with 8:37 remaining. Stuart then knocked down a pair of free throws and swished a '3' to slice the deficit to 51-43 with 6:22 remaining.

But Keuka was unable to complete the comeback and dropped its third straight decision.

The Green and Gold continue a four-game road trip with a 1 p.m. NEAC clash Saturday against Penn State-Abington. Keuka's 2015 home opener is against Lancaster Bible College at 6 p.m. Jan. 23.
