Men's Volleyball Splits at 1st NEAC Crossover

Sophomore Connor Hinman (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) recorded 26 kills with 13 digs and classmate Tom Campbell (Penfield, NY/Penfield) added 19 kills and 16 digs as the Keuka College men's volleyball team split two matches during the first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover competition Saturday afternoon in Marcy, N.Y.

The Storm (3-7, 1-1 NEAC) swept Cazenovia by scores of 25-23, 25-14 and 25-11 before falling to Wells College in a thrilling five-setter. Keuka won the first set, 25-22, dropped the second and the third sets, 25-19 and 30-28, evened the match with a 25-22 win in set four before falling 15-9 in the decisive fifth set.

Hinman recorded 10 kills with two errors in 19 attempts as he hit a season-best .421 in the win over Cazenovia. He added eight digs and Campbell had nine kills with four errors in 22 attempts (.227 hit percentage) with six digs against Cazenovia.

Sophomore Aaron Rydzynski (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) added a career-high seven kills with two errors in 16 attempts (.312 hit percentage) and freshman Spencer Avery (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) had five kills with one error in six attempts (.667 hit percentage) as the Storm hit .188 as a team against the Wildcats.

Avery also had four digs, freshman John Sprague (Fairport, NY/Penfield) recorded 14 assists with five digs and freshman Brandon Mitu (Richmond, B.C./A.R. MacNeill) tallied a career-high 16 assists in the win over Cazenovia.

Taking on Wells, Hinman had 16 kills, 5 digs and 5 total blocks, Campbell added 10 kills, 7 digs and 3 blocks and senior Devin Lesch (San Diego, CA/El Cajon Valley) recorded 10 kills with two errors in 32 attempts (.250 hit percentage) with 6 blocks for the Storm.

Sophomore Josh Makin (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) had 12 digs, 9 kills and 3 blocks, Sprague added a season-most 26 assists with five digs and junior Ryan Kelly (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) tallied 19 assists, 5 digs and 5 blocks for the Storm.

Sophomore Christopher Mooring (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) had 12 digs while freshman Derek Hosken (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) added 6 blocks, 5 kills and 2 assists for Keuka, the defending NEAC postseason champions.

Keuka faces Hilbert College in a non-conference match at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
