Box Score Senior Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) and junior Casey Williams (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) each recorded double-doubles to spark the Keuka College men's basketball team to a 77-63 win over York (Pa.) College Saturday in the opener of the 15th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in York, Pa.
Healey scored 20 points with 10 rebounds, and Williams added 16 points with 16 rebounds as the Wolfpack (1-0) outscored the Spartans (0-1) 41-26 in the second half to win their season opener.
Williams added six assists, senior Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, N.Y./Red Jacket) contributed 16 points with seven rebounds, while junior Vinney Zambito (Elba, N.Y./Batavia Notre Dame) finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists in the win.
Keuka advances to play Johns Hopkins at 7 p.m. Sunday in the championship. Johns Hopkins handed Lebanon Valley a 75-750 setback in the other first-round game.
Healey, Hixson and Williams each connected on 50 percent of their shots or better, with Healey making 60 percent (9 of 15), Williams 53.8 percent (7 of 13) and Hixson 53.3 percent (8 of 15). The Wolfpack shot 51.6 percent from the floor (30 of 59), and were 42.9 percent from three-point range (6 of 14).
Senior Jared Wagner (Pittsford, N.Y./McQuaid) was 2 of 6 on '3s' for Keuka, which enjoyed a 47-31 edge in rebounding.
Trailing 37-36 at halftime, the Wolfpack outscored the Spartans 41-26 to win their season opener.
Keuka used a 16-5 second-half spurt to pull away for the win. Healey scored six points, Zambito had five points, and Hixson added four points during the pivotal run for the Green and Gold.
Leading 54-51, Williams converted a three-point play, Hixson hit three layups, Healey scored six straight points, and Williams hit a layup to put the Wolfpack up 71-60 with two minutes remaining. Zambito was 5 of 6 on free throws to help Keuka pull away for good.
Healey finished with 12 second-half points, and Hixson and Williams added eight points apiece to pace the Green and Gold to the win.
