Szwec's Double-Double Sparks Women's Hoops Past Caz

Box Score

Senior Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor) recorded her first career double-double and five student-athletes scored eight or more points to power the Keuka College women's basketball team to a 75-55 win over Cazenovia College Wednesday night.

Szwec scored 10 points and snared a career-high 15 rebounds while classmate Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) tallied 18 points with 5 steals, 5 assists and 4 rebounds as Keuka (9-5, 8-1 NEAC) won its third straight conference contest.

Senior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) added 10 points with 4 assists and 3 rebounds, sophomore Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg Free Academy) had nine points with three rebounds and freshman Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) contributed eight points with four rebounds for the Green and Gold.

Senior Brittany Sinnott (Mount Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) added six points and six rebounds, junior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) had six points and freshman Chinyere Ukwu (Roosevelt, NY/St. Dominic) added 6 rebounds with 4 points and 2 blocks for the Storm.

Bandrowski shot 50 percent from the floor (7 of 14) and connected on 4 of 7 three-pointers as the Green and Gold shot 33.3 percent from three-point land (9 of 27).

Keuka trailed 19-17 late in the opening half before Stuart buried a jumper to knot the score with 1:29 remaining before halftime. That bucket sparked the Storm on a 12-2 run to close out the half with a 29-21 lead. Stuart scored four points, Cole hit a pair of free throws and Cole and Bandrowski each hit '3s' for the Storm during the run.

Keuka's lead never dipped below nine points in the opening minutes of the second half. Leading 36-26, the Storm went on a 15-5 to take a 51-31 lead with 12:54 remaining on a '3' from Bandrowski.

An 11-2 run by the Wildcats (2-15, 2-7 NEAC) sliced the lead to 53-42, but the teams traded baskets and Keuka held a 65-53 edge with 4:16 remaining.

But Bandrowski, Hadley, Ukwu and Stuart each made jumpers as the Storm responded with an 8-0 run to close out Cazenovia.

Megan Plahanski and Rachael McDonough each scored 11 points for the Wildcats.

Keuka returns to action with a NEAC home game against Penn State-Abington at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
