Box Score Sophomore Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) scored a career-high 22 points and junior Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) posted his third double-double, but the Keuka College men's basketball team fell to Morrisville State 80-67 Saturday afternoon inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.
Healey finished with 20 points on 58.3 percent shooting (7 of 12) and collected 11 rebounds while sophomore Vinney Zambito (Elba, NY/Batavia Notre Dame) added 6 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists for the Green and Gold (5-10, 3-7 NEAC).
Junior Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) contributed eight points while classmate Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) added 5 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists for Keuka.
The Storm shot 15-for-15 at the free-throw line in the opening half, with Hixson and Healey each making four free throws and Williams, Zambito and junior Adam Starks (Wellsville, NY/Andover) each knocking down a pair in the opening half.
Keuka shot a season-best 92.6 percent from the free-throw line (25 of 27) against the Mustangs (9-6, 6-3 NEAC), the two-time defending NEAC champions.
Morrisville State led for the entire opening half, including 25-14 halfway through the half, but the Storm chipped away and pulled within 38-36 on a jumper from Williams.
With the half winding down, Brandon Hanks drove the lane, hit a layup and was fouled with 0.1 seconds remaining. Hanks hit the free throw to send the Mustangs into the break with a 43-36 lead.
Healey scored 12 points with eight rebounds while Williams added 12 points in the first half for the Storm.
Keuka trailed 47-38 early in the second before Starks knocked down a jumper, Williams hit a layup and Healey added a layup to pull the Storm within 49-44 with 13:27 remaining.
But Morrisville State answered with a 10-2 spurt to take a 59-46 lead halfway through the second, and the Mustangs maintained at least a nine point lead the rest of the game.
Brandon Hanks scored 30 points with eight rebounds and Jordan Prior and Jailaan Kinsey each added 15 points for the Mustangs.
The Storm travel to Cazenovia College for a 5 p.m. NEAC clash Wednesday night before returning home to face Penn State-Abington at 1 p.m. Saturday and Gallaudet at 1 p.m. Sunday.
