Balanced Women's Hoops Team Bests Morrisville State

Senior Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) scored a season-most 14 points and added six rebounds and 15 different student-athletes scored as the Keuka College women's basketball team defeated Morrisville State 72-43 Saturday afternoon inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

Chamberlain shot 54.5 percent from the floor (6 of 11) as the Storm (8-5, 7-1 NEAC) shot 49.2 percent from the field (30 of 61), including 53.3 percent (16 of 30) in the second half.

Senior Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor) added 10 points with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals while classmate Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) added 11 points with five assists and senior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) had five assists and four steals in the win.

Junior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) had eight points on 4 of 8 shooting, freshman Chinyere Ukwu (Roosevelt, NY/St. Dominic) tallied 11 rebounds and classmate Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) snared seven rebounds as the Storm enjoyed a 50-29 edge rebounding.

Bandrowski swished a '3', Szwec added a layup and a '3' and Chamberlain made back-to-back layups as the Storm surged out to a 12-3 lead six minutes in. Morrisville State chipped away at the lead and trailed only 15-11 before the Green and Gold went on a 15-0 run to seize control for good.

Gravel knocked down a pair of '3s' and five different student-athletes scored during the run as Keuka led 30-11 with 2:47 left in the opening half. Morrisville State went more than eight minutes without a basket during the run.

Keuka limited Morrisville State (4-11, 2-6 NEAC) to just 27.6 percent shooting from the floor (16 of 58), including 20.7 percent (6 of 29) during the first half as the Storm took a 34-17 lead into intermission.

The Storm's lead swelled to as many as 32 points on several occasions in the second half, the last of which came after freshman Ashley D'Amore (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) buried a jumper for a 70-38 lead with 1:36 remaining.

Keuka travels to Cazenovia College for a 7 p.m. NEAC clash Wednesday night before hosting Penn State-Abington at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
