Box Score Junior Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) equaled a career-high with 29 points and sophomore Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) added 13 points, but the Keuka College men's basketball team couldn't complete a frantic second-half comeback and fell to SUNY Cobleskill 71-62 Wednesday night.
Healey shot 45.4 percent (10 of 22) from the floor and added nine rebounds, his third straight game with 17 or more points and nine or more rebounds, while Williams added six rebounds for the Storm (5-9, 3-6 NEAC), who lost their sixth straight.
Junior Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) tallied 11 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists while junior Adam Starks (Wellsville, NY/Andover) had five assists and classmate Brandon Franklin (DeWitt, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) added four assists for the Green and Gold.
The two schools were tied at 10 seven minutes and 40 seconds into the half before the Fighting Tigers (2-10, 1-5 NEAC) went on a 28-14 run to close out the half with a 38-24 lead.
Cobleskill's lead grew to 56-33 on a '3' from Bryan Backus with 9:50 remaining in the second half before Keuka used a 20-4 spurt to pull within 60-53 on a pair of free throws from Williams with 3:53 remaining. At one point, Healey scored 12 straight points and finished with 16 of Keuka's 20 points during the run.
Franklin and Healey each knocked down jumpers and Wagner buried a '3' to slice the deficit to 63-60 with 2:17 remaining, but Cobleskill responded with a 6-0 run and held on for the win.
The Storm return home to face two-time defending NEAC champion Morrisville State at 1 p.m. Saturday. Keuka handed Morrisville State an 81-60 loss on Nov. 26, 2013.
