Men's Volleyball Sweeps, Earns Postseason Berth

The Keuka College men's volleyball program earned a berth in the inaugural North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) postseason tournament after sweeping Gallaudet University and Cazenovia College Saturday evening at SUNYIT in Utica, N.Y.

Freshman Tom Campbell (Penfield, NY/Penfield) combined for 15 kills and nine total blocks and junior Devin Lesch (San Diego, CA/El Cajon Valley) added 19 kills and five blocks to lift the Storm (9-16, 3-2 NEAC) into the postseason tournament as the No. 3 seed.

Keuka, in its first year as a program, will face No. 2 SUNYIT (10-17, 4-1 NEAC) in the semifinals at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Lancaster Bible College. The Chargers earned the No. 1 seed after finishing the regular season 15-14 overall and a perfect 5-0 in NEAC play.

Keuka and SUNYIT met three times in the regular season, with the Wildcats winning all three matches, including a five-set thriller at SUNYIT on Feb. 16.

The winner of Keuka/SUNYIT takes on Lancaster Bible for the NEAC championship at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Storm swept Gallaudet by a score of 25-5, 25-18 and 25-15, while the Green and Gold swept Cazenovia by a score of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-10.

Campbell had seven kills and nine blocks while Lesch added seven kills and five service aces in the win over Gallaudet.

Sophomore Manny Fernandez (Tacoma, WA/Spanaway) added six kills with no errors in 14 attempts (.429 attack percentage) while freshman Christopher Mooring (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) had five kills with no errors in nine attempts (.556 attack percentage) to spark the Storm.

Fernandez added nine digs, Mooring had seven digs and freshman Connor Hinman (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) totaled 11 digs for Keuka. Sophomore Ryan Kelly (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) handed out 26 assists to go with 6 digs and 2 blocks for the Green and Gold.

Facing Cazenovia, Lesch had 12 kills with two errors in 18 attempts (.556 attack percentage) while Campbell added eight kills and four aces as Keuka won for the fourth time in five matches.

Kelly added 27 assists, 7 digs and 3 blocks while Mooring totaled 4 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs and 2 blocks as the Storm picked up their fifth sweep of the year.

Keuka travels to Southern Vermont College Sunday for non-conference matches with Southern Vermont and Regis College before the NEAC tournament this Saturday.
