The Keuka College men's volleyball won the first set of its first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest Saturday afternoon, but the Storm eventually suffered a pair of setbacks in the first NEAC crossover competition of the year.
Keuka (3-9) won the first set against host Lancaster Bible College, 25-19, but dropped the next three by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-15.
In the nightcap, the Green and Gold were swept by rival SUNYIT, falling 27-25, 25-23 and 25-20.
Freshman Connor Hinman (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) had 9 kills, 6 assists, 4 aces and 3 total blocks while sophomore Manny Fernandez (Tacoma, WA/Spanaway) added 7 digs, 4 kills and 3 total blocks against Lancaster Bible.
Freshman Josh Makin (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) added 5 assisted blocks, 4 digs and 3 kills while classmate Christopher Mooring (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) had 7 digs, 3 kills and 3 total blocks for the Green and Gold.
Sophomore setter Ryan Kelly (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) chipped in with 15 assists and seven digs in the loss.
Facing SUNYIT, Hinman had 14 kills with four errors on 25 attempts (.400 attack percentage) while Fernandez added seven digs and six kills and Kelly had 26 assists and eight digs for the Storm.
Makin added four kills with one error in 11 attempts (.273 percentage) with five digs while junior Devin Lesch (San Diego, CA/El Cajon Valley) added 4 digs, 3 kills and 4 total blocks.
The second NEAC crossover competition occurs April 6 at SUNYIT.
Keuka returns home to face Rust (Miss.) College at 7 p.m. Monday night.
